Hi, I've got a Sylva Phoenix with a 4L TVR/Rover V8 in it. I need to put the car through the SVA test in the next few weeks and need to prove the age of the engine so that I don't have to have a CAT...!

Can anyone point me in the direction of a reliable engine number listing with dates etc..?

Thanks!

Rich

TVR Power might be able to help since they made all the Rover V8 TVR engines.

I believe they have kept fairly accurate records since TVR took them over (in 1992 I think).

Just realised, you're talking pre-cat age of engine. Is it an NCK engine number? TVR Power may still be able to help since they made all them as well (but were called NCK then!).

Maybe take a look here:

www.gomog.com/plus8.html

or see if Rimmer Bros have info on their site.

Rimmers have a list of all standard Rover engine number series, but that won't help if it's a TVR factory number or an NCK one.

If there aren't any numbers that are relevant then the block casting can still be identified to an appx period of manufacture. There will probably be date stamps cast into it as are found on the heads. Also early Rovers had the engine numbers at the rear, later units had them at the side etc. Mind you, it would be a pain explaining that to a jobsworth! With research you could prove the appx date of manufacture.

Thanks, I'm chasing with TVR power at the moment. One of the V8 engine people told me it was out of a Morgan! I can't see that, it was definately out of a TVR....

I'll let you know. Rich

Not sure what other RV8 users did but most TVR block ID's are manually overstamped with the TVR number, whcih is similar in format to the normal rover one. Underneath this there will also be a lighter etching of the original Rover number as well. Not sure if this helps you though.
If you do have the number then Dom at TVR power will be able to give you an asssembly date, assuming it is a TVR engineserial number.
