I have just spotted a Chimaera 500 at the AAA service station in Dubai, I was just driving out after dropping my Discovery in for some work.

By any chance does it belong to someone here?

I think the statistic is something like 85% of arab blokes first sexual encounter is with another male or an animal, so I may not be too out of place.

Not wishing to be associated with the diverse aspects of this thread - The owner is an expat living out there and also runs a 928 Porsche. He bought the car new from the factory and agreed with them that if the Porsche dealer in Dubai did the servicing, they would honour warranty claims.

daftlad - you appear to know a bit about the dealerships/associations out there. Do you know if there is any sort of dealership? I was out there visiting an emirates lady and being a TVR saddo looked up garages on the web to find one but no joy when looking for it. I assume its "tacked on" to anotehr prestige dealership?

Excellent.
I love it in Dubai. Seriously thought about buying a place out there.

Not sure I'd want to be out in an open top for long though, so I'd have to take the Cerb!

Hi Schnozz,
I worked out here for a while. At the time, there was no dealership (2001 - 2003)hence the arrangement the Chim owner had using the Porsche Dealer out there. What I would say is that any dealer that set-up in the UAE would require a body shop attached, the driving standard is not the best!!

It's not just the 'driving' of other vehicles (which in the city is admittedly abysmal) that's dodgy - camels, goats, donkey karts etc. on dual carriageways to mention just a few of the local specialities.

I was out there last year, and drove over to see a mate working in Oman, and can honestly say I found the road conditions scary enough at ("bleep, bleep, bleep" - there goes the mandatory v.max buzzer) 120 kph plus, let alone TVR speeds.

I wonder what tricks he uses to stop a Chim 500 hundred from overheating in those temperatures!! Maybe he only drives it at night.

I agree Digga - the speed camera approach they have needs to be thought about - just pay a fine, and if they start to get too frequent? No ban, no points, an deferred payment period.

The down side is people travelling at 150,160mph + and using all three/four lanes to overtake....

thats one thing that did my head in. Bloody perfectly straight road to Oman and those beeping alarms. even with the stereo turned up they seem to infiltrate your head

Interestingly Rolls Royce seem to have 'reached an agreement' to have queiter, less persistant bleepers fitted.

Unfortunately, I was only lucky enough to travel in one from the airport and spent the rest of the trip (curse my uncharacteristically frugal choice of hire car) in a 1.6 Honda Civic. good car, but not up to lugging two peeps, plus a fortnights worth of heavy luggage and powering the aircon.

The speed differentials are horrifying and as I tentatively set out on my first drive, I immediately got stuck in the middle lane of a three laned nightmare, faster than the massively overloaded pick-up in the slow lane, but with nowhere near enough welly to pull into the outside lane, which was populated with various 'big powerful' motors, all hooning along at 100 mph plus.

I was genuinely worried. And then we got to a junction...
