Well, as some of you may know I am currently living in Germany. Since it was a bank holiday last Thursday and I had an incident with my Griff a few weeks ago (Damn handbrake!), I decided to bring the car back to the UK and visit Jason at the Bodyshop....

Well, can any of you tell me what the fine is for topping 110mph on a normal main road in Belgium? You see there is this great road on the way to Calais, should be an 8-laner, it was completely free no traffic, could see for about 2 miles. So what do you do... um I thought I would go for it!!

Then after about 500metres OOOOOOPS!!! Camera! Hit the brakes and slowed I think to about 115mph... (limit is 100km/h) not sure...

Anyone had any experiences??


Oh and on the whole 800mile journey I saw about 5 other TVR's but not 1 single Griff... and no-one spotted me....

You should have nailed it, Gatso's don't work over 155MPH the older ones anyway.

Not too sure but I got flashed by a camera in Germany when I was doing uber speeds and never heard anything. It was a few years ago though.

UK plates??? well then i think there is probably no problem, they only can fine you if they catch you at it and fine you on the spot!!

i heard from a biker once that they only bother you if you make a habit of getting flashed. Apparently, some bloke on his way back from a bike race at Assen blasted through all the speed camera's he passed with carefree abandon, in the belief that with UK plates he was ok. But had a hefty fine waiting for him next time he tried to enter the country.

Not sure i believe it myself though.

Phew, that was a good blast, man.... Good news first: they can only revoke the right to drive within their territory (not sure, however, if there is an accord between the countries on the continent, i.e. if you lose the right to drive in Belgium it counts for Germany as well. I f not, just drive home viq Hoek van Holland!. We only had a case that a German lost the right to drive in the UK after speeding near Colchester, but not the right to drive in the rest of the world)
Ok, you live in Germany, an UK plate, flashed in Belgium. Are you registered in Germany? I mean registered with the GErman authorities?
Lets start at the beginning: if you are flashed in Belgium doing 185km/h, i.e. 115 mph, you'll get a hefty fine, some months ban at least if you live in Belgium. The police comes around and gets your licence.
In your case, the Belgian authorities would first have to get in touch with the DVLA to find out the registered owner. If you then are registered as living in Germany, they would with that information have to formally write to you in Germany and officially contact you there...You might be lucky that the local police force thinks "F#*£$ it" and forgets it...but they tend to more and more pursue theses matters, in particular if it was in or around Brussles, where many foreigners try their cars....I am currently praying as well: Living in Brussels, car registered in the UK, been flashed in Germany just after the end of the high speed bit of the Autobahn...

Basically, yes I am living in Germany, the car is registered at my home address in the UK. If they chase up in the UK, no-one will say that I am living in Germany, as officially I am registered living in Japan! (I love confusing everyone!)

The road was somewhere near Tournai.. it was an A-road not a motorway. Really nice wide road... shame the Autobahn's over here aren't like that!

Oh and as for your comment regarding the continent-wide bans, apparently only Germany, Switzerland and Austria have this (According the my local Police here). In Benelux there is another. I was caught speeding in Holland not so long ago, in my German car and they never followed it...(Mind you in a Passat TDI it takes too long to go very fast anyway )
