Yo people,

Has anyone any experience of these 'high performence' glassfibre oil filters? How do they compare to more conventional paper type filters? Are they worth the extra or are most common or garden oil filters glassfibre these days?

Need a filter for my 450se

Agree looks impressive. Be good to see any independant test though or from anyone who uses one, I'm sure a group buy from the US would be most cost effective otherwise £20 each inc P&P.

Blurb states '43mm longer canister' (without referencing longer than what); don't some have clearance issues?

I'm guessing that's David Brown, and we discussed shorter filters late last year, specifically for the TVR Serps with oil takeoff. He may well have got an alternative if you ask him directly.

HI MATE,
So you've bought one of the v8 filters as discussed above? I'd be keen to know how it fits and if the oil stays cleaner for longer. I'm not planning oil change quite yet but within a month or so.

Cheers

Spoke to David this morning and explained the potential problem with the size and he said I could get a full refund if it don't fit. Can't say fairer than that. He's been involved with filtration near as long as I've been on the earth so I'm willing to be the guinea pig.
Appears to be a simple idea which looks like it works.

I checked clearance today on the 450 by placing a small 45mm high cardboard box on top of the oil filter then closed the bonnet. Didn't touch the box so I guess there won't be any clearance issues on a wedge.

Just to confirm for anyone considering one of these.............there are no clearance issues.

It's actually no taller than the original ( or is my original extra long?) .

Not arrived yet.
I use the standard LR filter (ERR3340 from memory) so hopefully should fit.

Unfortunately, it doesn't fit the Griff (serp) as it fouls on the chassis tubes when trying to get it on. It isn't far off but just can't get the angle to get it started on the thread. There seemed to be a decent clearance with eth ERR3340 on but you need to allow about 10-12mm for the length of thread and a few mil to clear the thread. This would rule out a lot of RV8's for him so not sure if there's an alternative.
Its about 25mm longer than the ERR3340 so the 43mm maybe the shorter filter. So i've put another ERR3340 on, and mailed David with the update.

I fitted one on my Serp Chimaera.

Granted it is a tight squeeze, you have to post it in at a precise angle to clear the chassis tubes.

But it definitely fits, well it does on my car anyway.

I tried for a minute or so until my arm was aching. Maybe if the engine was teased over slighly it would fit. I think you may have been lucky but another 15-20mm shorter and we'd all be able to have one.
I'm sure it would be fine once on the thread but I can't get it on and you can't really see what you're doing.

Don't worry Paul, probably means unlike others your engine mount spacer is still fitted on the correct side wink

You shouldn't have a problem putting it on the 430 BTW, ERR340 + 40mm take off plate is fine on the preserps.
