Breakdown cover
Discussion
Hi!
Think there was a thread on PH a couple of months ago asking the same question.
I was with RAC - satisfied with their service when I broke down at Le Mans about 6/7 years ago. However, I'm now with Green Flag as it was cheaper partly because I had limited cover with my Bank - - but also RAC seem to have hiked premiums over the last couple of years.

Cheers, good thread that. Looks like the AA provide a good service you just need to play the renewal game. Not heard of ADAC before, do you just get cover for the trip or do they offer a 12 month policy as per RAC/AA?
Thanks Andrew

I agree RAC premiums look high but I'm not confident about the less well known brands (pure ignorance on my part).
Have you used the breakdown facility provided by Greenflag?
Cheers Andrew

No - haven't tested Green Flag yet. Bit put off by RAC inasmuch as when I was looking to get cover for Europe earlier this year (a multi-trip policy though)I was quoted ca: £128. Last year I got a multi-trip deal for just over £100...However this was in addition to the 'UK' cover of around £80.
I got the same - - and yes, pretty much the same sort of cover, for £70 through G.Flag. OK, I know the UK 'clauses' were already covered by the complimentary Bank deal, but £70 versus nearly £200 and it was an obvious choice. I'm off to the 'Ring with the German TVR club in August....hope I don't need to test it.

Do you bank with Natwest? I get the same offer but didn't realise you could upgrade it- sounds like a good option if it is.
Thanks Andrew
Andrew, yes it is NatWest.Do you bank with Natwest? I get the same offer but didn't realise you could upgrade it- sounds like a good option if it is.

Think I looked at the front page of their online banking service, and there were details available there...or a contact at least.
IIRC, I seem to remember folks on PH (Le Mans forum?) asking similar Q's and Green Flag was mentioned then in a good light.

Has anyone got a breakdown policy which covers the person rather than the car? I am looking at this option as we have 4 cars in the household.
I use quoteline direct for my daily drive, £59 per year (for any car) for European breakdown, homestart & car hire/transport costs. I've only used them once and they were great, but I'm not sure whether they'd be ok with a more "specialised" car. I know most of the breakdown companies all contract with the same local garages so perhaps it will be the same whoever you go with?

Are you with GreenFlag now? Rather bad luck 2 years on the trot.
Cheers Andrew
Well yes i was with Greenflag & always had good service, however, Tesco breakdown (who contract greenflag) have now transferred their business to the RAC, next year i plan to renew direct with Greenflag. Are you with GreenFlag now? Rather bad luck 2 years on the trot.

In terms of luck my Chim has been fine for 7 years reliability, abroad on a bank holiday sunday i had an accelerator cable snap - should have carried a spare as a consumable. Second year was Le Mans where the wire on the fuel pump had worked loose on the long grass on the camp site presumably, neither major issues and both fixed by the same call out team booked through different organisations.

Cheers for all the help here folks, went AA in the end based on confidence of service- certainly a bit costly but don't want to take a risk if broken down halfway up an alp. Took the extended hire car option so holiday can continue if I break the Tuscan.
They were superb a few years ago when my Griff engine melted in France. The Griff got home before me (5 days IIRC) as I carried on my holiday in a hire car which they let me take through the Tunnel and swap for another one waiting in Dover. Also let me keep that over the weekend and hand back on the Monday.Best £38 I ever spent - would not change now.
Hope you don't need them though
