Dont get a hotel - get Alasdair Sawday's (sp?) B&B guide from your local bookshop - you'll have a far nicer time (and cheaper too I expect)

The "Rough Guide to French Hotels & Restaurants" (in a bookshop near you) has very good coverage, including cities and more out of the way spots; some of the hotels listed give discounts if you brandish the guide book when you arrive.
We stayed in Colombey-les-deux-Eglises, which would be about 4 hours by Calais at motorway speeds, and is just off the A5 / A31 heading down towards Dijon; a couple of possible routes to Annecy from there.
There's a couple of places in Colombey: l'Auberge de la Montagne, a Michelin 1* "restaurant with rooms", closed Mondays & Tuesdays though. Tel +33 (0)325015169. Alternatively, Hotel des Dhuits (3*) is open all week, not as quaint as l'Auberge but adequate and very quiet (not in the Rough Guide, we found it in Michelin). Tel +33(0)325015010. Both places have parking; des Dhuits has a garage too.
Hope this helps - have a good trip!
