Spider Alloy slightly buckled... options?

Turns out one of my rear wheels is slightly buckled. I was made aware of it when I bought the car and was told that a new wheel was on order but so far not heard anything (private seller so not much I can do!)

You don't notice any vibrations until about 100mph and visually the wheel is unmarked.

Will Racing Green accept it in return for their exchange wheel?

Can you repair a buckled wheel?

The wheel has had the weights removed - is it pointless counter balancing a buckled wheel?

RG are having a laugh at that price. Just buy a brand new wheel from TVR Power for £150 + VAT - make sure you specify the model of TVR and that you need a rear wheel btw, there is a slight difference in the offset.

I have a similar issue, one wheel slightly buckled. I did have vibration around 75-80 which was really irritating!

I had the wheels 'road force' balanced, which is much, much better that standard, and the vibration is all but gone, on a recent test there was no vibtation at 'significant speed'

£50 odd for all 4 wheels, BMTR in Birmingham, watched them do it, they are good guys, and loved the Tuscan!!

Long term i will replace the rim but TBH its not an immediate issue, they have balanced all the vibration out...

Oh, and no, i dont think a buckle can be repaired...

i buried my Volvo into a pothole the other night and burst two tyres and bent both rims on the inside and outside,Volvo wanted €400 plus vat for a new rim but recommended me to a wheel repairer €50 a wheel inclusive,rang me up mid job and asked if it was ok to charge another tenner because they were going to have to weld a crack,€110 all in can't fault the job

Spiders are brittle at the best of times so I wouldn't be running around on a buckled one when they're still readily available. Wheels and tyres are the only contact your car has with the ground and shouldn't be skimped on in my opinion.

^^ Agree with this. I buckled a front spider on my Tuscan. Took it to a local wheel repairer I've used a few times for scuff repairs and they told me they could fix it but they didn't recommend it. In their opinion it 'could' be perfectly safe but in a performance car did I want to risk a tyre blow out for the sake of £150? Thinking about it for a nanosecond I thanked them and went off to order a new one.

I have the old one in the shed and plan to make a nice feature of it in the garden while the mrs isn't looking

Get it re-ballanced and try it. Mine is fine now it was very slightly buckled. If its cracked or buckled badly then bin it.

May as well give it a go until I get a new rim. No visible damage at all. Only way I know the buckled one is because there are no weights on it.

Im not so sure Spiders are brittle, otherwise they would crack and split, not buckle. They tend to buckle which would indicate they are soft.

Anyway, i guess whatever the case, if then its clear you should bin it

If it were me i would try the road force balancing - they will tell you if its not safe in any way, for example if its too buckled...

Oh well, hopefully got a replacement sorted.

Did ask a garage yesterday whether it was worthwhile balancing it (standard way) in the short term - and they said no!

Take it off the car.

Take it to anywhere - even Kwik Fit and ask them to spin it up.

If it is buckled you'll see it.

You can get them straightend and there are a few places that do this - the largest being Pristine in Birmingham IIRC.

Your local repair centre should have a contact for them, mine did.
