First big service for me...

Just got my V8S back from it's first service (12k) since I bought it. Ouch!
I expected it to be quite a bit, but perhaps not £***.
True, I did ask for a few other things to be done (replace perished fuel hoses, new exhaust manifold gasket), but heck. Don't get me wrong, I have budgeted for all this sort of thing and put aside money each month into a 'TVR' account, so I suppose it's just the shock of the first major outlay.
However, just come back from a 40 mile jaunt along some deserted roads around Lyme Regis, Seaton and Sidmouth and I remembered why it's all worth it!
The sun was shining, the roads were empty, the car sounded even more intoxicating than usual and pedestrians everywhere seemed to be smiling in appreciation. Nice! 
All is forgiven.

Yup, my local one just outside Exeter. I suppose £45/hour (11 hours worth + parts) is normal and maybe even cheaper than some main dealers.
VAT is the killer though!
I use that one, just outside Exeter, and will be dropping the Chim down there this weekend for its first biggy (12k multiple) since we got it. I can't say I've ever had cause to complain about their work (I realise you aren't complaining), so am confident this one will be fine...... although I'm a little scared as to what the bill will be

That's why I drive 110ish miles each way from Wiltshire to use them rather than the dealer that's less than 10 miles from my front door..... and I dare say that they'd be the first port of call for any future purchases too.....
£45 hour from a main dealer is darn good value. My nearest main dealer charges £75 hour, needless to say I don't use them because of this charge, although I understand the work is good.
My Tiv club chums recommended a garage just around the corner to me, I've had a look several times and sure enough have seen assorted Tiv's in for work. Asked for ball park figure for full service on my 4.3 Griff, was asked if the car had yet been seen by them, nope not yet said I. In that case we like to go over it stripping brakes etc and this will cost around £98 + VAT + any parts used. Fair enough then but how much for the rest of the car then? oh thats all of it!!!! they said. Can't be right can it. So this means a full service for under £200 all in!! I still can't believe this can be right and will ask the Suffolk/Norfolk revlers what they have been charged by the garage. Have'nt booked it in yet.
