The expensive engine will be out of action for some time but should be back repaired and sporting a nice go faster addition in the new year.

Should still be pretty quick!

Whats the plan D with the new build for the new year?

Want to sell that plenum you have lying about ;-)?

I ran 13.0 on the old engine without gas.
The plan is to be at York on 28th August and to run 12.5

Plan D could involve a fair size turbo and 20psi of boost.

The plenum isnt for sale, its 72mm and has nitrous injectors. It may be going on the new engine.

What've you done Derek, just stuck your heads on or nothing at all?

If you don't need the valves or pushrods any more you can return them it's not like I have to refund you or anything hehe

Did you get the timing cover with the engine, yours may have taken a bit of a pasting in the pump area.

PS Derek paint the spacer bright red so you can't miss it out this time wink

rolleyesshout How am I supposed to pay you when you dont give me your details!? Please please PM me your accoun t and sortcode and i will pay you forthwith. I hate being in debt to 'real' people (if you are one hehe).

The other engine is on hold while I weigh up the way forward and give time to sorting my finances out.

This engine was bought off haicutmike and its the same block that powered his car when he kindly let me drive it at Odiham earlier this year. He removed his V8D heads and 45mm trumpets etc but has fitted 500 heads and a taraka style trumpet base. It also has a 72mm plenum, a new Typhoon cam and fresh shells.
Its originally a 400 crossbolted block with a 460 crank so the compression is into the 10's. The engine was compression tested at over 210psi.

I have just added my rocker covers etc. I will be sure to let you know if it gets me to York at the end of the month or not.

1 step at a time Alex.
I am not one to rush into such things whistle

I will be running NA at first but may be tempted to use a little boost on day 2 of the weekend at York.

Oi! don't you start getting arsey, I was trying to do you a favour...

..and I've never been comfortable about the worn locknut faces on those pushrods - even though I've never seen them and only brokered the deal for you wink I'd rather have been certain that they worked perfectly & you were satisfied after the 'comp test etc.' fiasco TBH.

Morning Dave.
I think the pushrods are useable but as you say they may be a little tricky to lock up sufficiently. That number 6 exhaust had come loose but once reset at TrackvRoad they were all fine. Well for about 300 miles till the 'incident'.
For some reason i have stored the pushrods in order even though they will need resetting when its rebuilt. It will be interesting to see how far out the lash will be. Wether it be in the original block or not scratchchin
Incidentally Kent recommended 22 thou but 'others' have said thats too loose and I should have set them to 12. Anyway i aint worrying about such things for now.
I am looking forward to firing up a relatively normal engine and to start enjoying the car. Its been far too long and I am itching to play with my 3-way Nitrons.

Not the one in the quote Paul.
Yes ive bought your old engine off Peter.
Cost me a bit more than it did you to build but a fair price i think.
Its got a new typhoon cam and fresh shells.

I should have it running this weekend but have a problem in that the torqueflow afm i have was tweaked for the forged piston engine.

I either need a standard afm and rely on the decat map or get the megasquirt fitted and mapped asap.
I want to be testing it out at York at the end of the month.

No, i fitted bigger inlets into the late heads, also relieved spring bases to help with coil bind, no real gas flowing though, so i assume thats what happened to them?

That block is a 2001 Range Rover 4.0, which i had pressure tested, with a 4.6 crank and 4.0 pistons to get the Comp up. (IIRC)

Yes i seen your old wedge thread. 10.25:1 but may be different if the heads arent the same. I know Peter had it comp tested at 210 psi so if i get a different result it will be down to a different CR or the valves not sealing as good as the V8Ds.
I will have to limit the amount of gas i squirt at York wink

I am just looking forward to getting out and about rather than weekend after weekend in the garage tbh.

210 psi is more like 11:1 with a half decent cam,

IMO - the sweet spot for super unleaded

It lives.
Only ran it for 5 mins, sounds just a little tappety but very good otherwise.

Just seen this thread Derek.

At least it's going of sorts!

I took a long time setting the preload so should be fine, I think we all listen for the slightest sound when once bitten!

Interesting thread be TVR Beaver though so I may well fit solid lifters and adjustable pushrods.

Its overfuelling i think also.

Guess i need too revisit Eann to 'undo' the tune he did on the afm for the previous engine.

It definately sounds a lot better than it has done for a while so i am confident i will be able to get some miles under my belt and be at York on the 28th.
