Hi everyone,

Its my understanding the clutches on the AJP V8's and Speed Sixes tend to fail from broken lift off springs or diaphragms, rarely through wear. It seems to be due to the fact that the housings are designed for race use (ie. a lower number of cycles per lifetime than a road clutch).

As such, does anyone offer refurbished clutches (new diaphragm/lift off springs & at least 50% friction material left) and would there be a market for such a product, if priced rightly?

I'm a university student (Automotive Engineering) with a broken AP Racing TVR clutch sat on my desk, I've sourced and priced all the parts to repair, now my mind is ticking away...

-This may be a non-starter, I know, but I have far too much time on my hands

Any contributions/thoughts welcome

Daiphram spring fingers breaking due to fatigue and slave cylinder seals blowing are the problem areas on the early versions.

Newer versions have had these problem areas rectified. Not sure anyone would bother putting an 'original' refurb back in when newer parts rectify the problems though?

Thanks- But the clutch on my desk, with the broken diaphragm is off a 2005 Sagaris...or do you mean newer? (I was looking at refurbing with new items in any case, although id need to check that they were the revised items)

I was mostly thinking about offering refurbishment of items on an exchange basis, daft idea perhaps...

Newer as in aftermarket. The AP Racing ones now seem to be sorted (as per Dom at TVR Power), and Raceproved already do upgraded slave cylinders and suitably modified/refurbed clutch packs. smile

Which I understand they've had ongoing issues with and revised the design a year or so ago?

Dunno about any issues they had other than a bad batch of friction plates (which I had and they replaced FOC), but the RP clutch and slave in my motor has been fine for the past 30k and it's still working a treat.

It wasn't meant as a dig at RP, merely pointing out that if it takes them a while to get it right then maybe not a simple task to improve the AP setup. I only know about the issues as I was looking to use one of their units and slaves last time mine failed.
