Mirror panic!! PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Evening all, just polishing the car prior to LeMans, (Serby was actually) and the drivers mirror has just sheared off at the base of the mirror body!! any suggestions for a product that will bond the sheared metal back together well enough to get me to Le Mans and back??

Gaffer Tape does the trick - i had this problem ,the eve before a track day - adhesives and liquid metal were no use.
Judiciously applied Gaffer lasted for weeks.

PS , black's probably the best colour for your Tiv.

It could be worse; whilst it doesn't look nice, you will be driving on the right hand side of the road, so the passenger mirror will be the most important. See you on Wednesday.

Corin, It will be the collapsible metal column that has broken. I have just got one from David Batty. 30 min job to fix on my S.

When you take the mirror glass out and look into mirror body you see a horizontal metal base plate, it is this plate that has sheared away from the metal post that rises out of the door, is this what you mean Chris?

Not really, it's designed to shear off on an impact I have afeeling that my driver's side will go soon, due to people keeping on knocking it. It's pretty easy to sort out. If you can get a new column then I can sen you some pics on how it is attatched. Really easy to sort out.

When you say its sheared off can you actually see where?

I had my drivers door mirror in bits a couple of weeks ago, I thought that it had sheared, but there is a screw that holds the mirror body to the collapsable post, this had come lose and just needed tightening back up. It sits aaginst a rubber bung to stop the mirror moving, so with some washers and a bit of locktite its now rock solid.

If its the post then not much can be done but replace it, if it is the actual plate in the mirror body then some tape should hold it for a while, but a new mirror is the only option long term.

Hi, thanks everyone it is the post that has sheared, i Have left it to set with some chemical metal but don't hold much hope! It's only got to last until after LeMans!!

Is it the post that has sheared out of the flat plat behind the mirror?

If so you can get a small metal plate, drill a hole in the middle of the plate and 1 on each edge, put the post into where it snapped from then from the other side pop rivet the plate though the hole in the middle and into the post, then drill the outer holes through in the metal plate and pop rivet the plate to it, I then added a extra 2 smaller rivets on the edge of the post to stop it turning as the mirror is adjusted.
