Body shop help

TVR Power body shop in the Midlands?

I would recommend against one in another part of the wet mids if anyone suggests it

Hi Andy - so sorry to here that after only having her a couple of weeks? I would recommend Cromhall Refinishing oin Thornbury or I know Richard @ Dulfords oversees good bodywork (think it's a local co. they use..).
Hope it's not too bad and on their insurance - had a similar thing on my Griff a few years ago...

Option one in Bromsgrove, Worc's. Done a couple of mine and few others I know. Don't normally like to recommend, but no problem here.

Bodyshop recommendations are a strange one. In my experience a lot of people are happy with a job that is far from perfect. Many people seem unable to spot poorly aligned panels or mismatching shades across panels. But I keep being told I'm fussy!

not had my car done by them, BUT have been drawn to cars that have been done by them and then in discussions with their owners found out have done the work,,,,,,,top of my list if I get the choice

Odd isn't it t you can name and praise, but not name and shame. There is one company mentioned several times here that did not do a good job at all on my car.

Superficially it looked nice and shiny, but on inspection part of the sill was missing the clear coat, it got more stone chips in 500 miles than it had gained in the previoys 17000 miles of its life. They stuffed up the electrics and made a real hash of geo (which they said they knew all about) to the extent that the car was dangerous but they insisted it was right (sorted by Neil Garner). They had the car back twice and didnt fix the problems. The first time it came back the paint was scratched.

They talked a good game and came recommended here, but it looks like name and shame makes it hard for us to help others avoid similar issues

One of the body shops mentioned did a front end respray, the blending in is poor around the front curved vent, the bonnet has been put back on wrong so has rubbed paint off the inside edge of the bonnet and body. Will be going back for rectifications yet again! as they didn't get it right the first time. Hopefully they can do better on the 3rd attempt or it will be screw the name and shame rule as this type of thing needs to be open to allow the paint shop to improve and make others aware of this companies weakness.

Gary at Bee Gee Coachcraft in Surrey is excellent. He used to work with Gatwick and Mole Valley TVR when they were going.

He's done my front and rear end on my Tiv and I'm very happy with the results. He's done full restorations on F40's as well as countless TVR's.

Certainly do. [If same place] They've done 3 TVR jobs for me and every time the quality and service has been second to none. Know of others who think the same and one bloke had a body off repair on his Sagaris and he reckons it came back far better screwed together than when it left the factory at new! He's almost as fussy as me!! I wouldn't go anywhere else. Just my experience and sorry not same for you. I only recommend seldom and for people I trust as it's easy to fall on your arse if someone cocks up. The name/shame thing may be annoying at times but I can see why it's there. As some may exagerrate their case a bit [not saying you are] but it can't be taken back. If all bad experiences were taken as read then no-one on here could trade and we'd lose a wealth of advice. I had a terrible experience from a place recommended on here for a suspension/geo set-up, loose bolts locking rings not done up and bounced around the road like an old bed. Yet others say he is the guru? just have to accept that maybe 'they' didn't actually work on our cars and they do have a turnaround of staff from time to time, though still no excuse when you've handed over your hard-earned. All we can do is pass on our 'honest' experience in the hope of helping others.

My experience was bad and if I had sold the car I would have pursued matters through the courts as it was that bad. Its odd that one place with the same team can be so inconsistent. Its not like mine was a budget job either, it was circa £7k and they had the car for 4 months.

If there is evidence to back up name and shame then it shouldn't be a problem. watchdog on BBC1 do it all the time.

I used this bodyshop partly from PH recommendation. The electrics that they stuffed up caused the car to break down in Spain and ruined our Pyrenees run up to le Mans as the time taken to get it fixed stuffed the itinerary. All in all I was pretty fed up.

Its a tricky one, if a place is being recommended then why can't issues be shared too, all in the name of balance

Thanks for the suggestions I have had some advice from my fellow south west tivvers and I am off to dulfords tomorrow.they seem to be well regarded locally and I have now seen a couple of jobs they have done and they looked very good.
