About 2 months ago, the water pump on my Chimaera 400 starting leaking. The internal seals had failed and water was seaping through the small hole in the casting.
We (my Dad and i) managed to bodge a repair by filling the hole with a drill bit and sealing it with superglue, just as temporary measure while i obtained a new pump.
After much searching around, my local dealer managed to get me a new pump earlier this week and i agreed to pick it up today - supplies of water pumps must be low at the moment!
Anyway, not 15 minutes after leaving the hose this morning, i noticed a slight power loss, then about 1 minute later, the car starting juddering all through the rev range.
As i pulled over to investigate, the car spluttered at idle and then cut out. There was a trail of coolant down the road. Check under the bonnet and sure enough, the water pump had ceased solid!
I always knew that there was a risk that the bearing would ceased as they would be running in coolan, but after two months of trouble free, bodge job motoring, it's just my luck that the pump ceases on the day i was due to collect the new one!
2 hours and an RAC flat bed low loader later i was back home and the pump is now being couriered to me next week.
