Any experience of a "cat C" ?

Following a bump earlier this year insurers have declared my S3 a cat C and have had log book and MOT from me.
Tax is up today so when I tried to get a "sorn" it wouldn't accept, a vehicle check showed it is now confirmed cat C.
So, not getting much clear advise, or money yet, from insurers can I go ahead and re-MOT and get VIC (car is repaired to a road worthy state) ? Does my log book (V5) come back or is a new one issued following the VIC?
Any advise from people who've been in same position recently greatly appreciated. No offence but I don't need "ten years ago a mate of a bloke I sort of knew wrote his car off and I think he...... "

If you haven't had any money from your insurers yet I would be starting to mention the words "theft of your log book" and small claims court. Verbally I've had an offer and accepted it, obviously it includes keeping the "salvage", they just seem to be dragging their feet a bit when it comes to writing the cheque. because your car is a cat c before it can be taxed or re registerd it must go through a vic check once its been repaired if you are driving the car to the vosa center for thi check you will need to mot it.
the dvla will not issue none taxed reminders and you should not worrie at all about tax , but do not drfive the car on a public roadf as your mot is now void
