All very civilised but when I asked the for the reason as to what grounds they had to pull me over in the first place, they responded:
"Your vehicle was making excessive noise when you pulled out the junction behind us"
First time being pulled over in the Griff in 10 yrs. Took it to be a compliment

Good work HAThe interesting this is that I pulled out behind them then stopped at a local bar as I was giving a mate a lift home. They then managed to turn around somewhere and come up behind me an buzzed past with the lights on.
I then drove off and they must have absolutely caned it through a set of one way narrow residential streets to get back behind me again.
I thought their excuse would be that I had been weaving over the road as I was in North London and it is standard procedure to avoid the pot-holes.
I was a little surprised by the excuse they gave.
Must have been a very, very quiet evening for them, which is good on another level. Still, nice guys and not a single sign of the 'Met Police Driver=SAS Hardman' routine that has appeared since 9/11.
My mate had just landed from LA and was half expecting guns to be toted about along with some shouting. He could not believe the way that they behaved compared to their equivalent back home.

if people reacted in the US like people react here they would all get shot, If you are ever pulled in the US sit in your car and dont move, keep your hands on the wheel and wait for instructions, cause in certain states they shoot first and ask questions later. It really is a scary thing over there, but you can blame the cops so much as they often get shot for no reason when pulling people over. State of MADNESS!

They probably wanted to have a look over the bike. In the same way if I were a cop and a Porsche GT1 or a McLaren drove past I'd have to find an excuse to pull the driver over.

Agreed. A couple of mates of mine were pulled over for speeding between Vegas and LA, when asked for their documents one of my mates just went for the glove box to get them out and the cops went berzerk.
Guns out, shouting and everything. You have to feel sorry for the buggers needing to react like that.
The upside was that the cops took five minutes unfolding and trying to work out the British DL and eventually gave up and let them off with a caution. You've got to love the old style license.

That is not grounds to pull you over. The only grounds to stop you are to inspect your driving licence under Section 163 RTA 1988. Having stopped you for that reason they can then ask about any other matter which is apparent to them!
That's why I asked them for the reason. I thought at first I had a tail light out, the usual reason, then I guessed it may have been due to jinxing around potholes but they had also been doing that when they followed me.
It was my opinion that even if I failed the test it would have not stood up due to the fact that they had no real grounds to stop me.
I was not even given a 'Producer' which is a first.
They did say that there had been a large number of thefts of high spec cars in the area but, again, I'm sure that would not have held up under scrutiny.
Maybe they were just desperate to shake hands with a Griff owner

They just like to have a look. I got stopped just south of Redhill last year at 2am. I was doing 30mph in a 30, we had the roof down and I was in a tuxedo.
When I asked why I was pulled over the very young copper told me that cars like ours were being stolen to order and they wanted to check I was the proper owner.
It took great inner strength not to loose my rag as I asked him how many car thiefs drive within the limits, top down in black tie!
While they were doing the checkover the radio the real reason became apparant. Mr. Copper starts asking is it a 4.0 or a 5.0, bet they are fun to drive, yadda, yadda!

Yep, I'll agree with that.
I got one hell of mean cop, who looked like BA Baracus and was looking for someone to shoot!
First off he couldn't understand what I was saying about not having American ID which wound him up even more. He told me to get out of the car and told me it would be along night for me
. He couldn't read my name FFS, when I told him I had no photo ID on me he took my wallet and went through it until he found my gym card - apparently this is acceptable ID in the states Very scary though, and very intimidating.

Doesn't fit for me (did for one of the coppers) but it is a very difficult one when the average potential terrorist will fit a very focussed ID type.
It was the same with the Yardie problem in North London a few years back. If you dress and act like a Yardie hardman what right have you to complain if you are treated like one.
Same with white van man entering the City. Too many bombs have been delivered by that method not to be able to over scrutinise the innocent.
I'm afraid it is just tough luck. On the other hand, there is no excuse for not being 110% curteous when stopping someone. I'm sure they are but it is important to ensure that is the case.
If stopping 1000 innocent people and just asking a few polite questions makes it difficult for someone to murder peoples' wives and children then it is not exactly a difficult choice (unless you are Loony Left).
When they said to me that performance cars were being nicked, while I didn't really believe the reason it does make you please to see plod out and able to do what the tax payer needs them to do, and they were perfectly polite and so nothing to get upset about.

hehe. yeh it's always been like that, not just since 9/11.
First time I was over there in 92 I got pulled over by the coppers so got out my car walked over to theres and went to open the pasenger side door.. since in scotland it's pretty normal to go into copcar so they can show you there 'evidence' of speeding (i.e. vascar).
The cop went mental, gun out pointing at me..STEP BACK FROM THE CAR!!! etc etc...
nearly had me a brown adrenaline moment.

, I'm sticking to orange juice from now on then! What chance does a precat owner have after this??? edited to say that I never drink and drive, and do not approve of the practice.
