Could a Porsche last 24 hours?

Just saw Johnny Senna's post about TVRs and track days, which got me thinking... I recently saw 2 x TVRs complete the Le Mans 24 hour race, so a 100% record there then. At the same race I notice several Porsches fail before the completion of 24 hours. Are they are not as reliable as I understood? Rich...
Hardly fair!
TVR got 2/2 home but, the first one was 27 laps behind the Porsche that won the class (almost certainly due to time in pits being fixed)
Porsche got 7/11 cars home. They took the top six places in the class.
Ferrari got 1/2 cars home but finished 16 laps behind the winning Porsche.
The Morgan finished but was so far back it was unclassified.
I think it's a fantastic engineering feat to get these cars to do 300+ laps of the track, flat out and still be running at the end.
Well done TVR for getting to the end this year and having the best looking car there. Well done Porsche - still the benchmark.

They had a 100% failure on the Drivel programme a few years ago - far better to buy a Tamora, they had 100% reliability.
German technology - "well known" for being unreliable !

Happy to Greg, as long as the '12' inch re-mix of "all TVR's are unreliable" gets to gather some dust as well.
It's all tongue in cheek, but I am amazed that you are still so touchy about something that wasn't even shown.....

I wonder how much the difference in R&D + race budget had to do with it as well ?

I was trying to point out that even though they got both cars home which is obviously quite important this is a race and they were miles behind.
Do you honestly think that if 11 TVRs started the race, they'd all finish?
Oh god, now you are invoking the law of averages, statistics, diminishing returns etc.
On the basis that 2 out of 2 finished = 100% reliability, why shouldn't 11 ?
I assume that someone with a better grasp of maths will have a good reason

The Morgan pits did get the award for Best Support & Prep of the car (which is why it spent 3 hours parked on the Mulsanne

Uh, 27 laps over 24 hours is 1.125 laps down per hour, at (approx) 4 min per lap means that each hour the first TVR lost only 4.5 minutes on average to the fastest Porsche. Which works out to being 92.5% as fast as the Porsche. I know, I know, lies, damn lies, and statistics and all that... still you get the idea.
I'd say that is pretty damn good for their second year there. I also believe that they are still running smaller restrictors and ballast (not sure on that), due to not having sold enough road cars.
Now, if you consider how much time, money, effort, and experience has gone into Porsche racing compared to the Tivs... I would guess that the TVR's will be fighting the top Porsches in the next few years for class wins. Here's hoping anyway.
