Rescued By A TVR!

As my daughter had a party to attend Sunday, a visit to a TVRCC meeting
was sadly knocked on the head and I returned home none too chuffed that
I'd not be seeing any TVR chums and to find the Grand Prix about to start.
The days have long since gone that I found any interest in F1, but since it's
now just down the road, I thought I'd give a chance.
30 laps in and tedium was in full flight when my saviour roared up the road.
A V8 sounding sweet and very very loud, pulled up outside and I peer out
of the window to see my good mate TVR SLAG.
Here to save the day was the cry and after a brief discussion we jumped in
our Cerberas and headed 20 minutes up the road to Bruntingthorpe.
There was I thinking I was about to take a couple of snaps of my car with
a few static aircraft, but oh no, this was about to turn into one of those
special spur of the moment events.
Crowds of people greeted us and I soon found out that this was a special
event to mark the 50th anniversary of the Lightning Jet Fighter and we were
about to have an access all areas thanks to TVR SLAG's BiL.
As we left our cars, which had quickly been surrounded by picture snapping
cadets, we wandered up to the runway to be greeted by an ear splitting
Hunter turning up the wick and blasting down the two mile runway.
Excellent stuff, but the day had more to offer.
Over the next hour we witnessed a Jet Car doing it's stuff, two Jet Provosts
going for a quick blast and then the finale, two Lightning F.6 jets giving it
full throttle, shattering ear drums and turning my face bright red from
the afterburners as we stood on the edge of the runway and watched
them tear down the strip.
TVR SLAG's BiL had also kindly set us up with a photo shoot once the Lightning's
had returned and with my ever glowing face showing signs of a scene
from Close Encounters, we snapped away with a Cerbera either side
of one of the Lightnings.
We came away 2 hours after arriving with some memorable footage
of all these wonderful moments and some cracking photos.

Wow you were a busy bee after I left yesterday.
Shame the video footage, whilst great doesn't quite give the full impression of just HOW LOUD and imense those lightnings were, and the fact that as they went past, the wash from the jet engines and afterburners nearly blew you off your feet. You can even hear the car alarms going off in the back ground. Amazing stuff.
I reckon you'd have beaten that Jet car in a drag race!!
