It might not be the best entry to the auction, but an excellent way of checking the out riggers.

I can't imagine that car will ever see the road again. While the damage might not look too bad in the picture the recovery guys will do at least as much damage again getting it the right way up.

What a shame.

There's more about that on the Griff forum under "Griff 5ltr auction" (or similar). Sorry story.

I presume it didn’t have any kind of roll bar, as it seems very flat in the roof / windscreen area.
It would be interesting to see a photo of one upside-down that did have a roll bar to see what the difference is.

Was a dealer car going for auction. A very nice 5L.

It MAY well turn up again later...on the race track!

As someone mentiontioned above, extremely worrying to see the total collapse of the windscreen, at such low speeds too eek

Makes me wonder if a rollbar isn't such a bad idea...

True, but despite what it says in the paper I've heard the car actually somersaulted off the front of the transporter from its top level, so the car suffered a near-vertical drop straight onto its back. Most real-world rollover accidents wouldn't involve such an extreme vertical drop.

Still, it will save the sellers premium for the auction if not the entry fee. Now to fill in the insurance form...

I'd take the faint chance of a rollover (which will almost certainly be self-induced) over hitting a steel tube with my head whenever someone hits me in the back or from the side. Any and all examples of the 'goal post' roll bar on Griffs and Chims sit uncomfortably close to the heads of driver and passenger, look at OE roll bars and you'll see that laterally, they are completely covered by the width of the seats/headrests (they will stick out on top or they're pretty useless, anyway).

I feel so far designers of TVR rollover bars have been mainly focusing on structural integrity and not so much on how a car occupant's head, neck and upper torso move around in a crash...

The roll bar needs to be within a certain distance to save you. The driver needs to be suitably restrained with a multi-point harness and seat so that he doesnt move around as you say.
I have been guilty of this for a couple of years. I had to fit my rollbar to comply with regulations in drag racing events. IE soft top car running 11's = roll bar. Nothing said about the seat or a harness. At least i wear a helmet on track.
