New rear half or new rear quater ?

Hi ya folks, I've recently took my car to Blackpool for slight damage to the near side rear quater & a scratch on the bonnet.

They've quoted for a rear quater & a full respray, as the insuarance are paying, I'm happy with that.

I had to get two estimates, the other company have quoted to blend in the paintwork & supply a whole new rear section.

The rear section is understandably double the price of a rear quater,but as they're only painting the damaged areas, they are quoting a £1000 less than the factory.

The insurance company are sending an engineer to inspect the car first.

Why is the second company (who I like as much as the factory) quoting for a whole rear section ?

Can you only buy the whole section from TVR ?

Anybody had anything similar ?

Sounds a little odd to me.

I believe quarters are available from the factory, but hat's not what sounds odd.

The factory panels are rough-cut, so a whole rear panel requires twice as much cutting to fit and smoothing as a quarter. It also requires painting all over (rather than just the damaged area).

It sounds like the cheaper quote is from someone who doesn't really know what they are doing (unless I've totally misunderstood).

I had slight rear damage on the Griff. At TVR Bodyshop they explained that only a rear section was available and had to be cut to fit... That was why for only a rear corner they had to buy a rear section...

Maybe the Factory use what they need and only sell sections to others?

If the bodyshop knows TVRs they should buy the whole panel but only charge for what they fit as the rest will be there for another car in the future.
