MOT around Leeds
Discussion
Baxters in Harrogate (01423 504796), they're attached to the back of the HHC showroom. Another PH member recommended them to me, they do all the MOT work for HHC so they're pretty familiar with TVR's.
They did my Tuscan last week, thoroughly nice people to deal with, they even made me a cup of tea....

They should be, Nigel Kemp, owner of HHC is also VERY closely associated to the name Baxter. Unless it's pure coincidence of course. I'd be interested to know... if they read these pages that is?

Right, Chim_Girl sticks her neck out; at the risk of being banished from Harrogate forever I'm going to put pixels to screen! Nikki is great, from a female perspective she is a brilliant advocate for the brand, a lovely person to deal with, and she can drive like a demon! The guys in parts/service have been incredibly helpful and their customer service has been faultless.
My previous job involved both training and managing sales/sales management in vehicle dealerships. Sadly, IMHO I can’t help feeling that they're missing the opportunity to 'do deals' and be a little more proactive in their approach. As I have said before, twice I’ve ended up buying elsewhere simply because another dealership were prepared to enter into a bit of bargaining/banter and gave me the impression that they wanted to do a deal with me. IMHO HHC are still very traditional in their approach, this may suit many of their customers perfectly, it wasn't quite right for me and my circumstances at the time. They are incredibly lovely people; perhaps they are in the very fortunate position where they don't have to be as 'aggressive' as some other dealers. If so, I genuinely take my hat off to them, well done, long may their success continue.
It would be wonderful to see them at BNG with or without the Sagaris. Perhaps this could be the start of a closer relationship with PH/TVRCC. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would love them to bring a car or two along to one of the monthly meets.
I’m hoping this fits in with Ted’s rules of posting, it is intended to be a big pat on the back combined with some honest feedback that I hope will be interpreted in the spirit it is intended.
If there is a relationship with Baxters, thanks to them too, their customer service was fantastic.
Right, wonder if I'll get a

emailed twice re bng but no acknowledgement - using web site contact email! :scratcheschin:
I don't think Nigel's worked out how to switch the computer on yet so email's still a bit of a mystery to him.
In fairness I went to HHC with an E-Type to p/x and I got a great deal and they retailed the E-Type from their forecourt. I thought that was quite an imaginative bit of deal making.
By contrast when I was considering a Porsche the dealer I was talking to was very reluctant to consider the E unless he had a surefire sale for it.

If I understand the way the TVR dealer network is supposed to function, they shouldn't always need to be aggresive. Dealers aren't supposed to trade outside their area for new vehicles so no driver to be more competitive with respect to new cars than another TVR dealer.

All dealer networks operate on this basis in respect to NEW cars. However, it is often the case that the number of used sales outweigh new vehicle sales. This is where dealers can and should compete with each other. Competition can take on many guises, price and service are only part of the process.

Some manufacteres may frown on 'out of area' sales but with current legislation can do abosolutly diddly squat about it (fair trading, free market etc), but most counld'nt give a stuff, they are not bothered 'who' sells the car, and some arnt bothered about at what price its sold either (price dealer pays the manufacter/importer remains the same so they still get their money)
With specialist new cars its more a question of who's got the car you want for earliest delivery
Volume new cars its who you can find to sell you the car the cheapest

All dealer networks are SUPPOSED to work on this basis. If I were in business selling a product I understood better than most of the competiton, would I want to compete other than on the terms I felt comfortable with - no.
For balanced competition, the product must be comparable, something that in the case of used TVRs rarely seems to be the case. Same again aplies with new, a car deliverd from one dealer is not necessarily the same finished product it is from another - PDI being the difference. They've been selling TVRs for 25 years now and competition has come and gone.
I personally think they have most of the rest of the parts of the equation fairly well sorted.
