I will explain later;-)
Can anyone answer a few questions?
Regarding installing new outriggers to a 1997 chim?
Believe me this will be good!!!!!
What should it cost and how should it be carried out (let's get a bit of discussion going then I will explain!!

Can be done without a body lift.
Cut out old riggers
make or buy new ones
powder coat
refit new ones, all welds to be as close to main chassis as possible.
wax oil
geo set up if required
make good welded points with decent paint system

cant comment on price but just had mine done.(cerbera)
Garage who did mine was MB MOTORSPORTS.

I saw it being down recently with sleeving over a couple of the tubes plus welding on the inner bits of the chassi to put a whole new set of out riggers on. Body didn't look to have been moved at all. A bit of a surprise!

For the job to be done properly the body needs to be lifted, places like RT Racing, Sportmotive etc will have a jig to make sure its all in line, then just some good old fashioned welding and some protection, powder-coat,paint your choice and then body back on, jobs a good-un! if you look back there's countless threads on chassis rebuilds with good photos. Good luck, prey tell how bad are the outriggers?

think you will find the garages you have named will do it with the body in place. As long as you can get to the weld points ok then it should be ok.Sure if you are repairing the outriggers then it must be hard, but if you cut at main chassis all should be fine.

OK!

So if the shell is still on what would we expect a fair price to be?
Is the shell is lifted what would we expect a fair price to be?

If the shell is left in place how can you weld all the way around the tube when the shell is on?
Did the original chassis ever come out of the factory with the weld incomplete?around the tube or was it carried out differently?
Question questions and I'm sure these have all been asked before but please beer with me.

Shell lifted ,the price could go sky high
stated price for insitu fit
and as said if riggers are cut at main chassis you can weld 100% around the tubes, ive had it done and have seen it.The price for a lift would go sky high due to all the other things that would need doing in the process.i spoke to many garages about this...and for me at the mo i think i took the best option.when i move later this year and get my double garage i will then lift the body.I would say 4 grand was the price quoted.

I can put my trainers on without undoing the laces, but that does not mean its the right way to do it! if your going to be replacing outriggers and wanting a good powder coat finish i would lift the body! but then i have just spent more than double the purchase price re-building my Griff so maybe i'm not the best person to ask!!! :]

Spongy just saw what you achieved on your cerb in a garage i'd be worried to open the door in! V.impressive stuff!

Paul Forest of Ex Works Service has a lot of experience of outrigger replacement with very good results... well worth a call.

So are we going to hear the explanation?

Thankyou sir,;)Know very well where you are coming from.I have made a comment about a body lift and will agree yes the ideal thing is to lift the body and strip the whole thing down.....and this will be done on mine. The point i was trying to make was you can get to the welds so the problem is not really the structure its the paint finish that is the main concern...and i have indeed had a chat with my garage about this, who say they will leave the top sections for me to do as im painting chassis anway.

If you don't take off the shell, how can you weld all the way around the tube as its too close to the fibre glass?
When the chassis was built in the factory did they leave the weld open at the top for any reason?

Ps its not only the outriggers that are hard to deal with when the body is in place......so if you have a few jobs to do under there it does make sense to lift it off.......but then its £££££££££££££ when you are paying a garage to do it as it does take time, and i will vouch for this biggrin
Sorry to go off topic a bit;)

Get under the car and look sir there is room......plenty of it.if i had a welder and time i would attempt doing my own,im as fussy as can be and when i first looked at mine i could easily see the job can be done in situ.Dont look down near the cills cos there aint no room there it has to be done near the main chassis smile

So are you saying that you can get a good clean weld all the way round the tube even in the middle and rear of the car?

Sorry missed the secound point
Cant see the factory would leave a weld not finished....to a degree.there would be no issue there because the chassis was made on a jig away from the body etc,so accsess would never be a problem. But for sure if you look at some welds on yours or mine they aint all good
