Insuring a 17yr old for a Cerbera

My son is head boy at the local school and wants to arrive at the school prom with the head girl on the red carpet in my Cerbera, problem is its tomorrow night and flux laughed at me when I mentioned his age. The journey is half a mile and will only take a few minutes and under escort!!!!!

Any ideas for insurance for a one off journey to make a lads dream come true?

Temp cover web site spat the dummy at being under 18, our company insurance is not much better as there is "small print" on certain types of vehicle, local Landrover garage offered new range rover but does not have the same sex appeal (or noise) as tvr, I'll keep trying

Most probably get it in the neck for this, but if its only a couple of miles and there is a car behind running shotgun, let him drive liv a little! can remember my father doing the same for me, a memory i cherish. what are rules for if not to be brocken?

Many insurers do not allow DOC (3rd party use) for drivers under 21/23/25 to stop this and other "fronting" scams.

So you are advocating letting a young driver out in a high powered car with no insurance - even if it is "just down the road and escorted". Get your flame proof suit ready.

What could possibly go wrong:

1) Police drive by and see how young the driver is - immediate suspicion - so pull him for a quick check.
2) Some other person pulls out from a junction without looking - crash. Lad blameless but let's see what happens.

If caught the lad will be charged with driving without insurance and taking the vehicle without consent (TWOC) or if dad admits to allowing him to use it (to remove TWOC charge) dad will also be charged with allowing someone to use the car who he knew wasn't insured.

Did not take long then! I know all of the above & i know the choices we make in life define us! Some live there lifes what if, other just live! I should of said it's what i'd do, probably why i've ended up in so much st over the years! But what a ride its been :] Off to Spa for Monday where i'll no doubt break countless rules and requlations, can't wait!! Hope your son enjoys his big day.

Is the venue private grounds? maybe drive them up to the venue and let your son take over once you reach the private grounds?

I very much doubt you will find any insurer who will cover you, and if they do they will simply exploit your desperation and charge a ridiculous amount..

This. Our school's proms are held at a local rugby club with a huge parking area/drive up to the venue from where it leaves the road. In fact, a couple of years ago a sales guy at Aston Martin in Leeds took a brand new Rapide to it to drop his missus' daughter and couple of friends off and as soon as he left the road he changed the plate to something a bit more showy like 'Rapide'.

Firstly thanks to everyone for there responses light hearted and serious, the situation was complicated by the fact I am not even in the country which is my cross to bear for missing his "big night" I was relying on friends and family to do the sorting out which I am not exactly proud of.

Secondly I am a risk taker but fate intervened yesterday afternoon when I recieved a phone call from a friendly enforcment officer in my region who has "helped me out" on a few occasions saying my pistonheads thread had been noted by someone in traffic division, they put 2 and 2 together and in this case came up with 4

So a little reminder to you brazen posters big brother is out there and to the sad little person at L&B traffic who is viewing our posts, **** you.

The day was made complete with the kind help of Lloyd Landrover who kindly lent me a top of the range LR evoque which was worth 3 times as much as the tvr and the insurance company did not even ask his name.
