TVR CHIMAERA OVERHEATING

Anybody had this problem...Start car, fans cut in as expected at around 90 and cut off but temperature carries on increasing, fans cut in again a few times then eventually they cease to cut in with temperature still increasing to over 100, I hear boiling water in radiator and turn off engine to cool down. I have shorted fans to get home. Any help would be appreciated.
Are you absolutely 100% sure both fans are coming on?
The only time my car ever showed over 90 degrees was when I had a bad connection on one of the fans.
One fan is not enough, you need both cycling correctly for the system to keep the coolant temperature below 90.
If you are listening for the fans to cut in, you may just be hearing the one?
Just a thought based on my experience.
If both fans are definitely coming on but still not keeping the temp below 90 then you need to look elsewhere.
Partially stuck closed thermostat, faulty otter switch or even an airlock are all easy to sort possibilities.

Strangely enough I had a customer of an early 4.0 Chim running around for 12 months like that I eventually persuaded him to get the 2nd fan fixed The only time my car ever showed over 90 degrees was when I had a bad connection on one of the fans.

at the time told him he had no buffer for hotter conditions ie hot day/heavy traffic etc, amazingly he did not overheat in this period and it's used daily

You beat me too it!! My rad was knackered so I recored it and when re-fitted was supprised to see no difference in cooling. Changed the otter switch (£22) and it runs at an indicated 85oC ish when standing in traffic on a warm day, but most importantly the fans stay on a lot longer till they have done their job. The old otter switch would cut in and out without lowering the indicated temp. Glad you've sorted it though, as it can be a worry.
