Embarrassed to be a PH member

I have always been proud of my association with PistonHeads. I have got to know a large number of incredibly nice people over the years - the website helped me into TVR ownership and on to racing TVRs. Many of the people I have met will be life-long friends.
However, I have to say that a large proportion of the threads posted on here over the last 24 hours leave me feeling embarrassed to be associated with them.
I am utterly gob-smacked at the reaction of the majority of people posting to the news that Peter has sold his shares in TVR. The volume of negative comments is dismaying.
I will probably meet the new owner over the next few months (if not weeks) given my involvement in the Tuscan Challenge. How will I feel about having PH stickers on my race car if this nonsense continues?
The future of TVR today is more secure than it was two days ago and that has to be a positive thing.
Can I therefore make a plea for common sense and people to be a little more open minded and less hysterical.

I would take the 'wait and see approach'. Some people seem bothered that he's Russian, or that he's 24, or that he's very rich, or that his dad ran a dodgy bank.
So what? I'm sure PW was only after his money, and that can do the company no harm.
PH is merely a place where people can express opinons - a rare enough thing these days - and is therefore to be valued, even if it means people will disagree.
I agree, I can't see what all the fuss is about. I'd rather the company go to an individual (albeit foreign) enthusiast with pockets of cash to invest than be brought down to some drab mass manufacturers level by being bought by Ford or similar.

I've been keeping my head down on this one (hard for me to do, I know), and I tend to agree with you, although I'm proud to be a PH'er.
I hope the change in ownership gives as much of a leap into the future as the one that Peter Wheeler gave the Company.
Hopefully, the investment that TVR desparately needed will now be forthcoming, and that they can now move forward. The nationality of the owner is largely academic in my view, the enthusiasm for the product and its development is much more important.

Wasn't Martin Lilley even younger when he took over the company in the 1960s ? The money injection certainly can't be wrong thing. I've got no objections and wish them luck and all the best.

There has been a whole load of rubbish and groundless speculation posted over the past few hours. I have to admit I was as shocked as everyone else but all the knee-jerk doom mongering and chest-beating jingoism is, quite frankly, as stupid as it is depressing. Get some perspective folks...

I seem to remember a father and son team having a good run with the company a few years ago..
Tvr's are an emotional purchase and emotions are high, I think the outbursts on here just reflect how enthusiastic people are for the company.
hopefully Mr Smolensky will understand this and hold the company in the same passion that we all do

I too thought that - or not much older. That was his quality idea with the scantily clad ladies at the motorshow too. Top man

Well, I feel reasonably 'close' to what goes on at TVR, hence bringing you the TVR sold story. Quite amazed that people didn't believe me at first.
However, knowing what I do about the current state of TVR, I believe that this is, on balance, a good thing for the company, the brand, the marque and its customers.
I know that view is probably only agreed with by 50% of the PH population - but let's have a little calm and some patience. PW is still there for the forseeable, and just look at the stunning designs that have come with his reign.
I'm at a loss as to the 'what's my car worth?' questions that are being made on here - simply amazed by it all. Your car's value has not changed overnight because the company's equity has changed hands!!!

this is the best move ever for TVR, send the link to Mr Smolenski and bingo - a new TVR might land on my door stepAll the 'bad' vibes will die down and become positive, I'm sure of this.
