rover V8 exhaust ?

I've noticed in some pics of the Griff and Tuscan racer that the Rover V8 exhaust manifold wraps around to the front of the engine. Never seen a system like that before. What is this for? Is it a Rover thing or a TVR thing, and is the AJP8 like that too?

This is certainly the case for all the Rover V8 engined TVR's.

I don't know the full reason for this, but suspect it is to do with the way the engine sits well back in the car to get the right weight distribution. This then means no room to run the exhausts backwards, so they sweep forward to the 2-into-1 'Y-piece', then under and to one side of the engine to run to the back.



Not sure about AJP8's?

AJP8 goes down and back like the majority of manifolds.

This is not true for the Rover V8 engined Wedge's ! the manifolds go down and back.
It's appear with the V8 S' series

The rest of your info was correct PS, the rover engine fits so snugly in the engine bay of the S that the pipes can only exit forwards. I have lifted the body off of mine and a shoehorn was needed to get the thing back Otherwise they would have had to use rover SD1 type manifolds which sap power (compared to the tubular jobs). The griff and Chimera's needed large amounts of space for the cats whilst maintaining engine position, so this config was ideal. It also allowed mounting of the cats nearer to the engine reducing warm up time (dunno if TVR did it for that reason though).

Have a look at the original 3000M turbos - to get the turbo in the front they had to reverse the manifolds to run forwards

Wedges don't. They go down the sides and back.

It was done to allow the cat to be fitted.

The engine sits about a foot further forward in the wedge though, so there would be more space to bring the headers out the back.
