Spark plug boots and extenders question?

I will be replacing my spark plugs soon, I have also bought some spark plug 'boots'.

The question is;

On my Chimaera RV8 do I need to keep the extenders and just add the boots or can I remove the extenders (is there a resistance issue) ?

You should be OK as long as you use stock HT leads- not Magnecores or like.

Good choice. I have just bought a set of those from America, delivered within a week for £30. Do away with the extenders and put the leads straight onto the plugs. As was stated by Simon says recently the old extenders are just an unecessary piece in the jigsaw to potentially give a problem. Those new boots protect the leads a lot more than the metal extenders did. When i replaced mine a couple of the leads had started to show signs of melting where they ran close to the manifolds. Hopefully this will not happen with the new boots as they are so much longer and appear to give ample protection.

I have also replaced my plugs with BPR6ES. This sorts out the resistive issue and also because i found that my original BP7`s tended to start sooting up quite early on.

Chimpofdarkness in a recent thread has fitted some Iridium plugs in his again of a 6 rating and really rates them.

I've got some of those "boots" too and although I don't dislike them I'm not convinced that they're a substitute for the extenders. I've been running no extenders on 1-4 (and extenders on 5-8) because 1-4 are easy to get the leads onto and avoid the manifolds ... 5-8 are just too close for my liking even with the boots.

I've just killed some plug leads on a good long run - they've baked themselves solid and cracked - and that was with the boots. Number 1 definitely went and I think there's probably another one at least that's iffy (haven't had chance to check) but I think I'm going to have to go back to extenders ...
