Str8six top end loan car and first service

Evening all.....
Well dropped my t350c off for its 6k service last Wednesday and I have never seen so many TVR's in one place.
Jason was flat out as usual and had some of his team off. I was told that because there was so much on to take the new famous Jap Jag. My faced dropped when he reversed the beauty out. You will have to see it to believe it.
So this is my first ever service since owning the car so what could possibly go wrong....... It's only a minor 6k service.
The email came through today..... Opened it and then closed it! £2010......
Now it's taken me until now to start smiling again. Ha
we are part way through the service of your TVR and there are a few areas that require attention at some point:
1. Intermittent starter motor fault. (investigate)
2. Small hole in o/s steering rack gaiter £45.00
3. Both oil hoses are starting to weep at oil pump. (advise)
4.Scavenge hose badly perished £95.00
5. Handbrake cable starting to corrode/swell. £115/advise
6. Rear exhaust hangers starting to stretch. £65.00/advise
7. N/S engine mount starting to perish but intact. (advise)
8. O/S diff bush slightly soft. (advise)
9. Front upper wishbone bushes starting to perish £150/advise
10. Nut missing from n/s seat mounting £5.00
11. Some corrosion to front & rear brake discs, front pads getting low. £480.00 (front discs & pads)
12. Rear brake pads required at next service.
13. Rear lower wishbone bushes starting to perish (advise)
14. Anderson jump start connector badly corroded under grease. £85.00
15. Front tyres starting to wear on edges (monitor)
16. No rubber sheet over + battery terminal, also battery not fixed in properly £15.00
17. PAS fuseable link & terminals rotten, holder has fallen apart. £45.00
18. Windscreen cracked down n/s. (advise)
19. Door cappings coming loose. £35.00
20. O/S wiper blade is worn. £6.00
21. Coil connections poor, intermittnet missifire on cyl's 2&4. £120.00
22. Alarm microwave set too sensitive. £25.00
23. Windows mechs need lubricating £45.00
24. Repair bonnet cable £15.00
25. Adjust n/s door £25.00
The above prices inc parts and labour but not vat.
So deep breath and welcome me all to TVR ownership.
Does it get better?
Oh and just to mention... When I dropped the car off I bought Them biscuits... Expensive coffee.... Choc.....breakfast.
So as a word of warning if you don't buy them stuff your invoice will be more ha ha

Of that list there are only a few i would personally do immediately, depends if you are handy with spanners.
The coil pack is pretty important, perished scavenge hose and maybe the seat nut if its safety related? whats the fault on the starter?
Brake pads and disks need a closer look - you need to understand the level of corrosion and how much wear is on the discs, i had a similar report - i replaced the pads (i wasnt happy with the yellowstuff i had fitted anyway), but the discs had hardly any wear and corrosion was only light surface, i just got them skimmed by an AP specialist by me (BG Developments).
The rest can be tackled by yourself really if you are willing to take your time...

Picked my Chimaera up from them on Saturday after using them for the 1st time for its service. Had read about the legendary email informing you of all the issues found before.
To be honest thats what made me decide to drive 70 miles to them though. Nice to get an in depth, honest assessment of everything. Plus the car is now fantastic

the list may seem frightening at first, but when you consider absolutely everything found on the car is there, whereas there are many dealers/indies who would not even mention some of the smaller jobs, then a few miles, months, year or so down theline these parts actually break or give up doing what they were supposed to do, and you`d end up with an even bigger bill in the long run, so its a case of "prevention is better than cure" IMHO.

This- when I took mine for it's first go it was a biggy (not as big as 2k mind and did include 2 rear tyres) but has since settled down consistently for the next 2 years. The thoroughness is reasuring and the advisories allow you to budget to maintain the car as it should be maintained. The other thing is there are no quibbles whatsoever if something needs a refix etc- not often but some electrical gremlins can be a bugger to sort. Wouldn't take mine anywhere else and I don't even get to drive the jap jag!do like that jap jag though, whats it go,like
I just dug out my list for interest...
1. Wiper spindle o/s is loose.
2. Clutch biting point is high.
3. O/S window regulator is noisy in door.
4. No reverse light.
5. Anderson jump start socket is heavily corroded.
6. N/S/F upper wishbone bolt is too short.
7. Fuel pipe on filter could fit better.
8. Both engine mounts are cracked.
9. Front brake discs would benefit from drilling out.
10. Rear brake discs in poor condition.
All done and sorted, well, sort of... the reverse light needs another go (suspected this when i did it) and the window still isnt quite right - think its the glass runners need adjusting...engine mounts i will tackle this winter.

I think i actually got more looks and interest when driving around in the 'jag' than when driving my TVR! - Had a lot of interest in it and people chatting to me, even had a guy in an e-type waving furiously at me to say hello as he must have been fooled into thinking it was an original!It does not do speed well .... Great fun to waft about in and goes OK considering i think it is a 1.3 but must weigh a lot more than a micra, even has a reversing camera!

Wow, that's different. Kudos to Str8six for finding something interesting.I love the Top Cats courtesy car too. It's an old Suzuki Alto, which sounds naff, but with about two horsepower and tyres that look like they've come off a unicycle you can drive it like an absolute loon and still not put yourself or your license in any danger. In some respects I had more fun in that than the Chimaera!
Well nearly there .... Bit more sitting around outside str8six drinking coffee and eating biscuits and we should be sorted. Geo just being done now which was badly out on camber etc.... Explains near death feeling at high speed on b roads.
These boys work hard and attention to detail is second to none.

Did you happen to see a titanium T350T up on the ramps whilst you were there?
Supposed to be getting my report back today and hoping delay is just down to workload rather than it taking a long time to write up like yours
I was rather gambling on getting under 4 figures this time so I can spend more on new toys... All I know so far is it passed the mot!
As others have said, well worth the round trip, the fact they are always busy and scary advisory notes for the quality service and attention to detail.
Never bother with the courtesy cars but new one looks great, I thought "what's with the old jag?" Until Mark explained when I dropped mine off last week. Lol.

The person before me must of got a good price on the nitrons but they did not get set up very well and the geo was way out.
These cars are all about detail and on the drive home I could not believe the difference.
