waiting for the AA in northants - think blown engine

Heading along the a45, felt a bang, drop in oil pressure which then came back up followed by loads of white smoke from the exhausts. Car felt sluggish, pulled of at next junction as wasn't safe to stop on road -dipstick showed very airated oil. Just picked her up from bodyshop as well which makes masters worse. Luck is something I only have negatively
It's a sod as it's warmed up and serviced religiously

I hope so but I fear the worst, especially as the smoke has a blue tinge which indicates oil.
Been told it'll be a 2-3 hour wait now for a low loader. Bored!

As yes, that fun. The longest wait I had was about 4 hrs sitting in a cold, dark car in the middle of the night. That was not fun.

AA eventually came at 2am and got home about 0330am.

Well, I hope it isn't too serious, mate. Otherwise you might have that excuse for a 4.5 rebuild...

One thing wanting a 4.5 another having the spare cash to pay for it. An hour to go according to aa test

Ahh what a nightmare. Fingers crossed for you but doesn't look promising.

Is it still the original engine? If you do need a rebuild and don't have the funds what will you do? Are there finance options available on rebuilds?

Lets hope it doesn't come to it mate. It could just be a head gasket, which if on a normal car, isn't going to break the bank. If it's more, I thought a 4.3 was better than a 4.5 for some reason... or if a price difference the difference is marginal in performance and therefore not worth it? Anyway, mute point as i'm sure you won't need it and you will be back on the road in no time

Just got home!!!!
Car recovered to a depot in Northampton for onward recovery to Mat Smith on Monday. Touch wood but I have a bad feeling it's terminal.
Bloody recovery driver kept trying to get me to allow his garage to quote for the work - as if!!
If a rebuild is required it will be a standard 3.6 rather than an upgrade.

Sounds like head gasket if so and no other damage hopefully not to bad as long as you stopped straight away

Hope its ok...or not as bad as you think.

Just had a standard 3.6 rebuild from Jason at str8six and it was £4350 + vat...engine crated there from Hexham HC...think it's more like £5K including removal and refitting. I'm sure the final cost will depend on what's found when the engines stripped but this should give you a ball park if the news is bad....fingers crossed!

Why pay ... say, £3k and be in a car thats exactly the same as it was before (pre-break down)
when you could pay £5k and have something better

3k for sort of nothing
or 5k for wow look at my massive new engine wooo!

I know money can be tight but this is your chance to do an upgrade, do it.. do it
