Search facility is down, but also a bit of a warning...

Just got my renewal through for breakdown cover from Green Flag. I have personal cover as we have more than on car, including the V8S.

Was about to file the renewal when I noticed that the terms of personal cover have changed from “any car you or your partner are travelling in” to “any car under 16 years old you or your named partner are travelling in”.

Now they are perfectly entitled to change their cover, and I can choose whether it still suits my needs, but this was on an automatic renewal and there was no warning that the wording has changed. This now excludes the TreVR, presumably because I've had one call out in each of the last couple of years.

So, reinforces the need to read the small print...and leaves me in need of another breakdown company. Any recommendations please?

I used to be with RAC.
They covered my V8S, then the Chimaera, and the Tuscan.
They do give a TVRCC discount - - but ask for it!! (Another good reason to join)

Try and 'negotiate' a price...they can sometimes budge, particularly if you've had a better quote from another company. They definitely cover 10-y-o cars, but do load the premium.

I've always used Britannia Rescue. (Don't have a TVR though).
Their policy doc is here for checking the small print. But I don't think they limit the age of the vehicle.

I've called them out a few times in the UK with various older cars (MK1 MR2 for example). Service has been spot on what I'd hope for. Not called them out in Europe at all if you are planning on a breakdown abroad...

Had the best quote from GEM so far. No age limits, free cover for the wife driving. £90.00. Unless anyone has anything bad to say about them...

Cheers.

GEM are good very good. Always let you know how far they are away, and turn up when they say they are, and seem to have people who know cars and are prepared to get you going if they can, if not well again never had an issue with recovery even with a low car. They also have a mobile app you can download to your phone to help get help. The only problem I have they now assume its the TVR thats broken down not my other motors laugh and again they seem to always be right.

Unfortunatly they don't have to bring to your attention the change in terms. It's up to you to check the documentation for changes frown - good spot though.

Got mine through Adiran Flux (http://www.adrianflux.co.uk/breakdown/), with my car insurance.
They did a bundle which included breakdown with Equity Red Star ( a company I use to work for) and I think it was only about £60-70.
Might be worth a call, includes homestart too.

TBH I wouldn't want the AA or RAC man trying to repair my car so I just got breakdown insurance. Try IC Breakdown and Start rescue. IIRC Breakdown and Recovery anywhere in the UK (no homestart though) cost me about £24 this year. I've never had to use Start rescue but IC breakdown took my car from the northwest to Milton keynes and from Corley services to the northwest and from preston to home with no problems. All they do is low load the car and take you where you want to go, no pissing about. smile

As per the OP, I've had personal cover for many years (2 drivers 3 cars). I'm with Aviva Breakdown Recovery. It was, and I believe still is, provided by the RAC - Aviva owned the RAC until a couple of years ago - but Aviva were much cheaper than going direct to RAC. This year's renewal is not due yet but I've never seen any clause restricting the age of the vehicle under personal cover. If you get a quote, give the details of the newest cars to get the lowest price. My quote is based on a V50 but they still come out to the Griff.
