New Manifolds for Griffith & Chimaera

ACT now selling sleek new pipes

ACT Products - makers of performance parts for TVRs - have just released details of their new manifolds suitable for both the Griffith and the Chimaera.

The new items improve flow and offer the optimum bore site for realising more power and torque as well as changing the all important soundtrack! When fitted to the ACT Griffith an extra 25 ft-lb of torque was found.

The new design provides better clearance from the bodywork, removable cats, are better looking and cheaper than the original replacement parts!

Designed and made in conjunction with JP Exhausts, the ACT manifolds are priced as follows:

Retail Pricing:  (including collector to exhaust system)
Excluding VAT

  • For pre-Cat models or for applications not requiring cats: £820
  • For Catted cars: £1250
  • Catted cars including de-cat pipes: £1350
  • Cats only (price for each): £220
  • Decat Pipes (pair): £100

For more information, call ACT on 0870 7070110, 07903 or contact them via www.actproducts.co.uk

Looking at various manufactureres of the s/s manifolds and these seem to be the most expensive by some way? At over a £1000 they must be very special indeed.

I think you'll find its not just the manifolds but the Y piece (down pipes) as well. The sports cats that fit as a pair at £220 seem resonable, given that to re-cat the current dustbin it would be around the £500 mark alone AFAIK.
I've seen and heard these fitted to Tims car in the catless configuration and it really does make a rather nice noise still with a fully baffled exhaust. So if you also factor in those that like exhaust note there is no need to get the get the wadding taken out, at what £100+.
I'm sure Tim gained about 10hp as well.
All in, if your exhaust manifolds/y piece need cahnging than this route is not much dearer than a straight replacement IMHO. As far as the gain per £ ratio goes it actually not that bad an upgrade, with an exhaust note to die for into the bargain.

I would really love to but they are really too expensive

I assume they are s/s, I wonder if you can get them in mild. I would want to thermal coat them anyway (even more cost..)

does seem expensive i know, but when all is considered it works out ok. and being ACT the quality and performance will go as standard. if your manifolds go or if the cats on the way out, thats the time to do it!

mines already bin done (in various forms) and tho mine was done in bits i probably cost roughly the same (less the ceramic coatings mine has)

i can vouch for the noise when fully catless...FABULOUS! mines bin clocked at 128db! - estimated as the scale only went to 120db

starmist will be on here later and will no doubt give it a good write up. be interesting to see if there's any gain in performance. I see Tim is only claiming Torque not BHP. though others are already speculating on peak figures.

doubt it'll give any extra in the power dept, mine doesn't BUT adds greatly to the driving experience with more torque and a "willingness to rev".

and thats wot counts!

go on, ya know ya wanna!

need some more quick Griff's out there

Unless your engine is mapped to suit these exhausts you won't get the full benefit of either torque or BHP.
Being made by JP Exhausts in Macclesfield and not ACT as quoted, they will be quality components with a lifetime guarantee.
I'm sure Richard at RT Racing could supply them as well, being a big customer of JP's.

Seems a decent way off Modifying the Griffith Exhaust as and when it wears out IMHO, Like someone said before its gonna cost ITRO £500 to replace the cats anyway.

Good luck Tim, Looking like another Quality Product from ACT.

I always remember the saying YOU PAYS YOUR MONEY YOU TAKE YOUR CHOICE and if you want anything of decent quality in life whatever it is, you are gonna have to pay a little bit more for it.

BTW The deal is that JP build these for ACT, we supply Trade and retail, so you can buy them from any specialist.

I'm sure everthing is negotiable . I must say JP have excelled themselves with the quality of these. I had a close look at Tims installation when it was on the RR,they are a work of art almost.

Slightly O/T, Tim I'm off for a week with business at the weekend to the Philippines, when I return, we'll talk induction routing again. I think I have it sorted/sussed and just need to do some 'tests' and get some better tubes .

Tim, thought you glued bits of carbon fibre together not stainless tubing. They look suspiciously like some catless manifolds supplied by Peninsula, only better quality.(Which is to be expected)

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I must be the only tight fisted so n'so on here

Assume that these pipes are imune to the cracking prob's that I have had with the original manifolds.

I have the ACT improved gas flow Y section for my V8S, it sounds awesome. I take the previous point of having the engine mapped for the new sections, ACT claim possibly another 10bhp. Wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good place to get the engine tunned?

With a bit of luck and a following wind, I should be on the rollers this Friday. I will not be able to say exactly what the difference is, as I've fitted Weber Maserati injectors (+20%) at the same time as I was running out of fuel before. Mark Adams will be setting it all up, so we shall see...

They look good, sound awesome, and since I was going to pay £500 to have the original precats removed with reverse cones and ceramic coated, the additional £750 isn't too bad. If it makes 10bhp, it's good vfm.

LMAO .. I make sure I buy any JP made stuff through tim at ACT anyway, it's cheaper than buying from JP themselves cos tim buys big numbers in! .. and why not buy from the bloke who's been instrumental in getting the kit set up???

the only things i buy direct from JP are the cerbera sports pipes and that's 'cos I got JP to change the design when i was at HHC .. everything else comes through Tim, mainly 'cos he's a top bloke and it pays not to alienate people like Tim .. they're the foundation of TVR tuning and the rest of us newbies wouldn't be able to do the stuff we do without Tim and the other time-served specialists.

.. so .. buy from tim. Price may look expensive, but cost and value aren't the same .. I'm sure the price reflects the development time, quality of materials and end power result. Would you rather spend 2/3rds the price on something that hadn't been proven to work? .. I know what I'd buy and it'd come in a box marked ACT

Ahhhhh, now the full picture begins to emerge, but if you don't have this information in the first place and you see others who supply other top marques as well as TVR then the start point is price.

I remember when Wedge Automotive set up so I knew of them but having been 'missing' for 8 years have a little catch up to do.

Tim, Never mind all this, book me in and thets be having them ( re: conversation the other day). Before you fit them though, can I hear the exhaust note from another car?
