Goodwood Speed Champs round, this weekend

Yep, it's that time of year again, and the TVRCC Speed Championship returns to the fantastic Goodwood circuit this Saturday. For those not attending the many and various track days and circuit races this weekend. Nice to have a choice though isn't it?!
Officially, there are no spectators, but there seemed adequate parking and viewing last year, and I know quite a few people did turn up during the course of the day to enjoy what seems to be a race, motorsport freebie....but I didn't tell you that.

So come along and see; the legendary Purple Shed in action; the comparisions between the many and various models of TVR competing; Jes Firth get sideways (he's bound too I guess!); and whether I get another tank-slapper going through the final chicane

We'll be there from stupid o'clock for signing-on and scrutineering, and cars should be running in practice for most of the morning, and then timed runs from late morning/early afternoon.

I'll be there - although rather worryingly the V8S has suddenly gone quiet on me - could be a blockage in the exhaust, which is never a good thing! I've got it booked in for surgery next week, but in the meantime it's good to have a pre-prepared excuse - although I suppose I could make up for being slow down the straights by not slowing down for the corners ...

Rob Gilmore and I will be travelling down later today - competing on this great circuit is well worth the journey - and washing a double-dose of brave pills down with a couple of

My advice to Cuzza, and anyone else interested in sprints/hillclimbs is to seriously think about giving it a go. It must be the lowest (theoretically!) entry cost motorsport, and in terms of enjoyment and satisfaction (if and when you feel you've done a good lap) is fantastic.
The more TVR contingent we can get sprinting, the more events will be persuaded to run TVR categories, instead of lumping us in with those unsportsman like 4x4 (Evos, Imprezas, Skylines and Quattros etc.) monsters. Most of the TVRCC Speed Champs contenders will be happy to offer some advice to prospective competitors (until/unless you provve to be too proficient!) and opint you in the right direction.
Adrian, did you not check out this years TVRCCSC rule book?
IIRC, Section 23, sub section 2a:
"The pre-advice of excuses is no longer accepted. Excuses must be made on a face-to-face basis with at least two other competitors, to check whether you can look them straight in the eye, or if you're just fibbing."
Or maybee 23.2a was:
"no stopping at the side of the circuit for picnics during timed runs"
It doesn't matter anyway, you get the point!

Errr does this include when I grab something to eat while refuelling the Purple Shed at Lavant?
I thought Lavant was a favourite spot for unscheduled off-road moments. Perhaps better to try and fuel for a stop on teh infield after Fordwater?

erm, rather embarassingly they proved to be a smoke screen. Not quite sure what caused the problems last week, but miraculously, the motor came good on the day. Next week Mr Adams will be taking a look on the Austec rollers to see if he can find anything amiss.
The (provisional) results below are sorted on handicap time ('cos it flatters me). Suffice to say, the usual quick guys had a variety of troubles; the purple shed found the limit of slick adhesion on both timed runs and one of our members (who will remain nameless for now) came a cropper at Fordwater on the first practice lap - yep, that's right, the second corner of the day!

Good to see the V8S's taking 2 of the first 4 places, albeit on handicap, but always first on the sound track front. When are you up at Austec with Mark
. I'm overdue 'the final fettle' with Mark some time, but have met, more than once, with frustration so am reluctant to go around the buoy again until totally confident all's well. Hope to catch the rounds next year, might even do some car park scenes to give the whole day experience to it too

Whilst a touch more torque would be appreciated (especially as it doesn't feature in the sprinting handicap adjustment!), my main intention is to arm myself with a more technically plausible excuse for Lydden(Sat 28th)than my "the exhaust has gone a bit quiet" attempt at Goodwood.
