Tyres for chim- 225/45/r17 and 245/40r18?

After 5 years and 25k the Toyo t1-r s on the back of the chimaera are approaching the point of replacement-

With this in mind what do you folks use/what can you recommend?

I' ve been very happy with the t1-r s.. however it appears their no longer available, which a shame.

Running non standard alloys, 225/45r17 at the front and 245/40r18 at the back, thoughts appreciated.

I had similar tyres on 17 inches all round and had problems with the rears rubbing on the bodywork in faster corners. Have gone for 205/40 17s all around and am very pleased with them - Yokohama Parada Spec 2s

Isn't that a bit narrow at the rear QB?

Yup, don't have them in my size, only t1-s or t1-sports..

Shame- hence posted in "general" as the wheel sizes are probably more in common with tuscan/tamora etc..

Re rubbing- I've had no problems, however alloys were supplied adapted for correct offset etc, so I suspect it may be something to do with that, or possibly re suspension set-up..

My rears (Dunlop SP Sport Maxx) are due for replacement soon but I'll be changing to Goodyear Eagle Asymetric 2's or Continental Sport Contact 3's all round. (I have SP12's on the Chimaera)

I've had the Conti's on other cars and been impressed but the Asymetric 2's are supposed to be even better and are a little cheaper. Blackcircles.com are cheapest at the moment for these sizes inc fitting.

Bought 2 sets off Camskill in the last 2 weeks...

Unsure about your specific sizes, but they definitely have T1-R's in stock...

I was about to buy some T1R's, but they currently have some Federal RSR 595's on special with £30 off, bargain tyre for that money! but its a semi slick r888 tyre tyre, dont know if you after anything quite that extreme.

All I can say, HCM, is that the braking is awesome and they seem to handle well. I was also advised that too wide tyres could cause handling problems, though i don't remember where I read that or what the problem is. If I ever end up with enough time and someone to look after my dogs while I am out, I will get back to Cadwell Park and test them properly.

It's probably my non-standard wheels and their offset then. I bought them off a Chim 500 owner, so assumed that they would fit correctly.

Can't comment on sizes,,,, but ran T1Rs, then switched to road leagla track day tyres Kumho V70a's which were so great in the dry.... just switched to Toyo R1R's which are trackday compound (888's), but with road tread pattern... they work fantastically well in the wet and dry ...... chatted to many whom are running them and they all love them

Cheers folks. Re T1-Rs in the size I need (245/40 R18) - can't find them for love or money..(places out of stock, or saying replaced by T1-Sport - thought the Racing Green website does claim to have some) -

Had noticed the R1-Rs.. which has tickled me somewhat .. however I note on the Toyo webste they only start out with 6.4mm tread (versus 8.2 on the T1-Rs), plus softer compound, will mean I can probably expect around half the usage out of them as the T1-Rs (completely unscientific guesstimate but anyway!) - but no doubt they would be ok, if not potentially overkill for my stype fo driving..

My usage tendes to be predominantly dry, good weather driving, however I do make a point of taking out once every 2-3 weeks through the winter months, so whilst I don't do much of it, it doesn need to be drivable (even if very gently) in subzero weather (read reports of R1-Rs cracking at sub-zero - no idea if any truth in this though?)

The thing that really 'worries' me, is being caught out in strong shower (ie summer downpours) which can result in standing water.. lighweight RWD high torque cars are fairly aquaplane vulnerable anyway - so any tyre that is bad in these circumstances is a no-no.. (which, I think, rules out Yoko AD08's etc)..

I'm about to replace the T1Rs on the rear of my Cerb and these look to be getting excellent reviews and are reasonably priced http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2012-Auto-Bil... Ok- be interested to know how you get on with the Nokian's.

R1R's are apparantly tricky to get hold of at the moment, one local supplier spoke to Toyo and mentioned they're on back-order at the moment.
Other options that have been suggested -

Anyone have any experience of this on a TVR or other (relatively) lightweight sportcar?
