I am pretty new to all this so apologies if this seems a really newbee ask but everyone goes on about how fantastic all TVRs are when you hear them through tunnels - where are the best tunnels in the UK or near Europe? Is it just about their length or are there other factors that should be taken into account?

Would anyone like to nominate a best tunnel in Europe award?

The westersheldetunnelweg (starts 20 miles west of Antwerp) does pretty well for northern European tinnels at close to 4 miles in length as a starter.

Long and Big :P The Longer and Bigger Better!

In the UK, Hindhead (1.2 Miles), Hatfield, Dartford, ummmm Channel...ok maybe not that one.

100 miles from Calais, 5 euro toll each way - could be worth a wine/beer/chocolate/cheese run. Thanks for the best of UK list, I heard that the Channel Tunnel frowns on you if you try to drive yourself! laugh

I was driving through the Frejus tunnel thinking the Wedge would love this (in a van at the time), only 14km or so long, but part way in the exhaust fumes hit you. No extraction fans. Terrible. And pegged to 50 sommit or whatever miles or km. So depends on what the conditions are.

Hi,
The roertunnel is the longest in europe at 2.45 km, if you look on the Belgian site in the international section you will see I was looking to get a few folks to run through it, but with no joy ........yet.

I've driven it in another car, that's what triggered my thinking that it might be rather fun,

Crazy, if you are up for it, there's a Thunder in the Tunnels run around London, early on the morning of 14th October. There's a thread on here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Sign up and we can down to the big smoke in convoy, meeting up with the team at Stansted.

QB, sounds good but waiting until I actually get car before signing up for it. smile Convoy is a really good idea if my ability to navigate the smoke is still as bad as it always has been. wink

Seriously considering a trip to Norway at some point.

I can't see a better way to get there than UK- Denmark, Denmark to Norway.

Anyone suggest a better route.

Driving up the west coast of Norway has been something I've wanted to do for many years. Should have done it when you get a ferry direct!

Harwich to Esbjerg is the best way then hirtshals to kristiansand, I do this trip a few times a year, the coast road isn't the best road to use, route 13 is a better scenic route than the E39 to Bergen

Lærdal is longest road tunnel in the world, 24.5km long, lots of people come to Norway just to drive this tunnel, lots of exotic to see at the weekends.

Best tunnel in Europe and the world is the shortest ! Baldock's new bypass. Stunning scenerery either end, in just 3 seconds. No speed cameras either.

This- do it westbound so you're going up hill and therefore loading the engine- 3rd gear and let it rip...
