Trader deviousness and naming/ shaming?

Sold my very lovely TVR to a chap who claimed to be a private buyer, he haggled me down with a good story but all n all happy with what I got for it. Throughout the gentleman made out he had been after one for ages etc. Really happy to have that model again, had a similar one a while ago but not as good etc etc. no allusion to being a trader.

Ok that's what traders do - but why the charade ? I have no reservation selling to a trader, but i do to liars. I also notice now my car is advertised at a fairly hefty mark up and gushing description that it doesn't quite fit the history with the car. Nothing major just "not quite right". I don't think I've become senile n the last three weeks either.



Now Whoever buys it will get a cracker......but I don't trust the dealer based on my experience and will feel v.obliged to let any "anyone know this car" know what price and any other "insider" knowledge.

If he is a "genuine" trader he should be VAT registered, you don't have to buy/ sell
Many cars to exceed VAT threshold. It is therefore not legally possible to buy your car without giving you a VAT purchase receipt with his registration number on. He could be in sheep dip if HM customs and Excise found out. Lots of these come day go day "traders" don't pay vat on margin, don't pay tax and make it difficult in already difficult times for those of us who are reputable and look after customers. His day will come.

more importantly what is your favourite TVR model and colour?

It's the sellers responsibility to send off the V5 in the new owners name, or in the event of sale to a trader, send off the yellow slip and give the V5 to said trader.

So not being funny, but it would be fairly clear whether the guy was a trader or not.

Because some people assume that if a trader is willing to pay £xxxx for a particular car a private buyer would have paid them more for it and it can get in the way of the deal.

To be honest if you got what you wanted for it and the bloke sells it for more I can't see the problem.

Have you thought the guy might not be a trader? I once bought a car but 2 days later was offered a job in China, gave the car to another dealer to sell while I was away.

Give these guys a call and express you concern that this person may be trading and since they didn't make it known to you might possibly be not declaring profits for Tax.

They do investigate reports.

'IF' it is true [IF] Then it IS very underhand. had a similar thing happen to me in building industry with a landlord posing as a 'broke' first time buyer. Tossers!
