Too much pressure!
Discussion
Having recently got my car back from a couple of reputable (and generally pretty good) specialists I finally got round to checking the tyre pressures. I'd kept on remembering about it when the tyres were warm rather than before I went out
, and besides, these places know what they're doing don't they?
Argh! I was running 30psi all round! That explains the understeer I'd noticed then!
I'm now back to the usual 22/24 front/rear.
In other news, I finally tracked down some 4L cans of Mobil1 0/40 after two weeks of looking. I had to go to a local spares place and four branches of Halfrauds before I found some, so I invested in 18L. I think I might have overdone it in my excitement, so if anyone wants some of it, let me know

Hey Nige, 0w-40 =
NO! Even handbook says 5w-50 and 15w-50 is better (also from Halfwits).

As I understand it, when the handbook was written 0-40 didn't exist (just like 5-50 doesn't now), so different places went their own way. (0-40, 15-50 or something else).
Is there any particular reason for choosing one above the other - bearing in mind that my car get used throughout the year?
If I was using something too thin I'd expect to be getting rid of more than a litre every 1000 miles.

Nige (do you ever sleep?) just because it wasn't available when the h/b was written doesn't make it OK now. There is lots on here about oil and viscocities etc. The 0w-40 is quite a new oil and has been developed with fuel economy in mind for new hi-tech engines of much tighter tolerancing than the old RV8. To my mind 0w-40 is akin to Bats Piss and nothing under 10w should really be used. 5w-50 is available (for some reason) on Le Continent. Best by far is Motorsport 15w-50 from Halfwits for £35. Yeh, daylight bleedin' robbery but I only need it when I have a service (no top-ups required in between
) See www.mobil.com if you're bored. I can see what you're saying. On the other hand, the 15-50 has been developed for more modern engines too. More to the point, if my oil was all that thin (as far as the tolerances go) it should be p
g all over the place and burning to a frazzle.
I guess it may not be the best, but it's what I've been told and there hasn't been much concensus on PH about what is best.
It's also a bit late now
. I guess we'll either find out in a few years, or I'll have some oil for sale shortly after our curry.
