Odometer stopped at 29,999.5

The odometer has given up the ghost and won't click round to 30,000. It is stuck halfway between 29,999 and 30,000. The trip counter did work until we reset it and now that don't move either. Any ideas on what to do as I want it working so we keep to the service intervals otherwise we'll lose track of the mileage.

Leave it a bit. It'll see sense in anything from 10 to 100 miles. Maybe a bit more Once got 500 out of mine on a rollover

On my S3C I had to knock gently on the speedo from underneath the dash with the handle of a small screwdriver to get it working. But mine had been stuck for quite a while then. Maybe yours will be fine with a gentle tap on the glass while driving (be careful and stay on the road while tapping).

If you do a search you should come up with about one hundred and one different and wacky ways to cure it!!

My favourites include stuffing it in reverse and attaining high speed and passing a current across it.

Sorry - I've done a search and didn't realise it was so common.
It had stoppped on Friday and a round trip to Silverstone (approx 120 mile round trip) hasn't cured it. The speedo still works so if it hasn't cured itself I'll try tapping it and reversing around a car park - not sure if I'll try the ferry (not handy as I live in B'ham).

I had the same on my Chim 400 at the same mileage a few months ago. It didnt free with miles and even my trusty TVR specialist couldnt shift it. I ended up having the speedo sent back to the manufacturers for fine adjustment .

It wasnt expensive at all but I had to wait a few weeks for it to be returned as they were so busy.

Mine did that at 39 999.9, Austec told me it was common and would free itself, or not in which case it was replacement time.

It freed itself after approx. 200 miles.

Servicing is cheaper, apparently, if they don't free off.....

My Cerb did that at 26000 and it has done it again just before 30000. The first time it was just the mileometer and it started again after 50 miles or so. This time the speedo does'nt work either, but then after a good 30 mins or so driving it starts again. Fingers crossed but i think it may be working ok now. I think the things just get a little tired and require a rest

Very common. Mine stopped at 29999 at the weekend as well. 10 miles later, its working again.

It still hasn't freed itself. Where can I get it fixed and what sort of price am I looking at.
I haven't got a limited mileage insurance policy so want to get it fixed so I keep up with the servicing intervals.

Any TVR garage will sort it for you, but i recommend an indie. When mine first stopped at 26k, an 'authorised' TVR garage started going on about having to take the whole intrument panel out and sending it away etc etc etc. Took it to a well respected indie, and it was basically £50 for a new sensor and that was that.

OK I'm only guessing but probably 1/2 hour of dealer or independent's time. Dave Batty, for one, knows how to cure - I expect David Gerald do, too.

You might get them to check out your funny noises too - just for peace of mind?

When this happens to mine I'm going to change the dash for a steel/aluminium one I think .

I'm having the wishbones and bushes replaced by Adrian Venn but still waiting for their delivery. Any news Jamie??
I will ask him to look at both challenges when it's in.

Took my Chimaera to Central TVR in Stourbridge, and they removed dash and Speedo, and proceded to "tap2 the clock until the rollers dropped to the 30k mark.

Grand sum of 1/2 hour and £10 to put right

Happened twice to me. Both times car fixed itself when it felt inclined to do so.

Mine (oh, Richards now) did this on 30K.. I tried all the fixes I could (inc the high speed blast in reverse). In the end had to take dash out.. great fun

The Cerb is on its third speedo, and the current one got stuck for a few miles at 15000. Did the reverse fast run then forward 'rapidly' whilst tapping the front glass and it freed itself.

No harm in trying agian though - that was about 200 miles back.
