immoblizer problems

Can anyone help , are there any tricks to the immobilizer , was having problems with key fob , had to keep it depressed longer to get it to work , thought it was the batteries so changed them which seemed to fix the problem but 3 hours later it the fob or the immobilizer has totally stopped working and is now the car ( chimaera 500 1998)is stranded . My question can these things be reset or do I have a bigger problem , thanks in advance if you have any ideas . Jim.

If a META imobilizer system. Use the emergency togle and insert in slot below the ignition key. Can you hear the petrol pump priming when the ignition key is turned? If not it ncould be the imobiliser. The old TVR remote fobs tend to break up inside. If so contact Carl Baker, Petersfield, Hants.

Mine 'died' on me the other day. As the other poster states, put the rectangular end of the immobiliser in the slot on the right hand side of the steering wheel next to the ignition. I waited until the flashing red light turned a solid red, pulled the immobiliser out, and quickly put the key in ignition, turned it and it started ok.


I did this every time to start the engine. For some reason though, I don't recall the petrol pump priming noise.

All sounds like imobilizer quirks. Dangerous if engine stops on overtaking or on large fast open round abouts (South Mims). Had mine is bridged. Problem cured.

Thanks for the replies nothing worked on the saturday night so I disconnected the battery left it over night , reconnected sunday morning and everything seems to be back to normal , well at least I hope I is as I'm now driving in France !

Pretty easy to bypass the immobiliser, should the need arise.
