Thats it I'm jinxed
Went for a blast in the Chimp - roof off
opened the boot and to much junk to shift to get the roof in 
only going to be half an hour - no more than 5 mins from home Nope dont need it! Off I pootle leaving the roof panel sitting on the drive - yep you know whats coming! 5 mins (normally) away from home and it pee's down - Feck! Feck! Feck!
do I run for cover or run for home???? No idea how long it's gonna last - 'Run for home' keep the speed up and shouldn't get wet - In Theory
Feckin Gridlock on the main road
I'm getting wet, spin the car round and head for the sidestreets - away from any possible shelter Sideways movement round one corner trying to keep the speed up
take a short cut Feck! a bus pulls out of bus stop and pull alongside bus going the other way 
for a chat 
MOVE D1CKH3AD!!!! every which way I went I got caught behind numpties
got a bit sideways on a clear run through the S bend's, eventually screech up on the driveway and fling the roof on - grab a towell and it stops sodding raining 
somewhere there is a moral to this story 
You are jinxed Darryl! It's all very well taking your roof with you s'long as you can get the flippin' thing out of the boot. Sometimes it's okay, other times it gets wedged. And of course that has to be the case when it starts pouring down
Happened to me once. The upside was two young blokes in an M3 stopped to offer assistance! 
I hardly ever put the roof on...
I've been out many times when rain has struck although not a downpour..
As some might have seen from Windsor or the S meet recently, I carry a large towel rolled up, inside to protect the rear screen (as many others)....
I use this when the rain is light..
Rear screen up, doors closed, towel wedged between door windows and both screens, covering the roof space.
No good for driving with but goes up in seconds and is very effective. When I've been out I either find a garage forecourt or stop and put the towel up.

One option you could use is to carry one of those massive golf brollies in the boot. They will cover the entire interior in an emergency such as yours.
My brollie is blue/yellow and has Renault written all over it! But thats another story.

....If you're going to have a brolly...at least get a designer effort......

Feckin weather - put the cover on the beast last night, could see that it was going to rain
yep it peed down, the wind was howling - the rain woke me up in the middle of the night
thank god I put the cover on 
Got up this morning
the wind has taken the cover off 
FFS! Trudge out onto the driveway to retrieve the soaking wet cover -
I only left the sodding windows open when I put the roof back on
