I have been getting some intermittant problems with the Chim, it would stop for no reason at all, and sometimes not start,
I have managed to trace (i hope) the problem to, what looks like a amplifier or surpessor bolted to the side of the distributor, if i touch or move wires / plug, while running she cuts out!
i need to replace both plug and unit, as the pins in the unit look suspect, and the spade connections in the plug look damaged

Its a 1994 Chim, 4 ltr Pre Serpentine

Questions are:
1/ what is it!
2/ where can i get unit and plug?
3/ is it much of a job to replace? when i unscrew the unit from the body of the distributor, what can i expect to find?

I am hoping to drive to France in 2 weeks, so although she drives, i dont want to risk it!

Please see pic below,

Thanks in advance...

Steve,
Its called the ignition amplifier.
I'd advise going to your local LR dealer and ask if they can supply an original Lucas psrt. The Intermotor items are not as robust and fail with the higher under bonnet temps on a TVR.

I'd also try ACT and/or the new custodian of tvr carparts..in the SW of England.

On the pre-serp cars it comes with heat barrier gel in a little tube - use it all up!!
