What Got You Into TVR'S ?

Back when i was first driving,i spotted a Black Tuscan in the west of Ireland,a rare sight in Ireland never mind the UK back then,i dragged a friend out to see it,he was as hooked as i was and we swore we would both own a TVR one day,collectively we've owned 8 TVR's now.He introduced me to The Stranglers which i've always thought a fair swap !
Saw my first TVR in 1971 when I was 10. It was either a Vixen or a Tuscan. Passed it every morning on the way to school and drooled over it. A couple of years later it disappeared but was replaced by a 3000M. Looked like a space ship to me then. I eventually plucked up courage to talk to the bloke who owned it and he took me around the block in it. (God if my mam knew that she would have battered me! what! getting into cars with strange men!!!!) Loved TVR's ever since and got one as soon as I could afford one, about 30 years later. Had a 450 Chim, Tamora (the wifes), Tasmin race car, Tuscan 2 and a Tuscan Challenge car. Still got the two Tuscans 
and having loads of fun....
and having loads of fun....In my life the 28th January 1986 is notable for 3 things..........my parents moved house, the space shuttle Challenger blew up and i watched/heard a very loud wedge drive past as we unloaded the removals van, since then it's been an ambition to own a TVR.

Reading a book in the college library when I was 17...something like 'World's Fastest Cars'.
There was this amazing machine called a TVR Trident which was listed at 'approx' 175mph...1mph faster than a Ferrari Daytona.
I was of course aware of the chubby little TVRs occasionally to be seen on the roads in 1969, the sort of sports car driven by slightly eccentric young Jack the lads, but the 175mph one was the stuff of daydreams.
Years later when the V8 Wedges emerged, flexing their muscles and frightening small children, TVR had reached the level of 'one day I must have one' status.

I had Allways wanted a 3000 M turbo , but in around 1985 I rescued a 61 Grantura ( XET 604 where are you now ? OZ I beleive .
My sister nearly bought a new Griff in 96 and I still have the brochure she was sent by the factory. Then in summer 07 I was looking around for something hot, perhaps a 911, when I suddenly remembered the Griff. I rang my then Girlfriend to tell her I was going to view one that a noon in the midlands. That car had various issues and as I was driving back she rang and said that she was at her sisters looking through Auto Trader and had seen a Dark blue ( Mallard ) 96 one in Braintree. I shot over to see it , it needed some tlc , so i did some sums that night , rang the guy in the morn and made him an offer .... Which he accepted !
I loved that Griff, should Never have sold it in April 07 to Germany.

A ride in an E reg red 350i to a nightclub called pantiles. Would have been about 1990. It was early morning (on way back to the club to collect my boring car), drizzling rain, oh the noise, oh my pants....
The owner dropped me off and then (he says due to a throttle issue, I say showing off) he skidded into the exit pillar and it fell onto the car!
He claims TVR admitted it was a throttle issue and repaired foc. Yeah right.
Then in 96 a contractor at work had a black k reg chimp with retro fitted power steering. So I went contracting and bought a chimp 450.
The owner dropped me off and then (he says due to a throttle issue, I say showing off) he skidded into the exit pillar and it fell onto the car!

My dad was a bit of a car nut and ran Aberdeen car auctions before it was sold to the Scottish motor auction group, over the years he had 3 triumph stags, a lotus excel, a db7 vantage and various other british cars before my time, this was imbedded in me from a young age so after a few years driving s
t boxes then a nice 156 GTA, I started working offshore and the T350 was the most exciting and fast sports car I could find for the money. Insurance was only £1k on them as well which for a 21 year old was rediculous, I almost crashed it 3 times on the 400 mile trip home, then never had any near misses the following 3 years 
now got a Sag and chuffed to bits!

I eventually bought one in 2005 with the plan to satisfy the itch and sell it after 2 years. I kept it for 3 years and then bought a Sag which I still have and - unless I fall on hard times - will never sell!!
I saw a big wedge giving it beans under the railway bridge when I was a kid.
I begged the old man to take me to the motorshow, and that's where I saw the S being launched.
From that point on, it was a matter of time.
