Best TVR for track days
Discussion
I know this is a question that will probably name all TVR models from various people but, all things considered if you were going to buy a TVR for track day fun which one would you go for?
My criteria would be as follows:
1) Would want to drive there and back not trailered.
2) Would be my 2nd TVR (and 4th car) so can't cost the earth.
3) Wouldn't be thinking about keeping in pristine condition - it will be for track day fun not looking at.
4) Has got to handle well either from standard or from a small amount of money spent.
5) Would be living outside, my garage if already full but I do have a couple of good quality outdoor covers.
My first thoughts would be a Cerbera as they handle well from standard in comparison to a Griff (longer wheel base I guess) but with all the recent work on my Griff that is now handling very well (but it has cost me). I guess a Cerbera can live outside too (my last one did for years) but they are more pricey for a good one and maybe less reliable than the RV8 cars.
If I wanted cheap and cheerful would a wedge be fun? I have no experience of them so don't know what they handle like.
I did see the S for sale recently that was (correct me if I'm wrong) Jool's (joospeed) trackday car - is something like this a good choice?
The newer T cars might fall foul of the 2nd criteria - not being too pricey. Also, if a cheaper one was purchased it probably wouldn't have a rebuild. Will a std straight six take a regular weekend hammering?
I know (before you all say it) I could just take my Griff which I will to try a few track days out, but if I enjoy it and get hooked I wouldn't want to abuse it as it is in such good condition (I haven't seen many better).
So, budget wise probably under 8k, 10k max (but to be honest the lower the better) - what would you buy for a weekend track day tool?

S would be a good choice, a bit more raw than Griff or Chim. I recall someone on here a while ago had a Cerb for track days but claimed his S was a better choice as a track day car due to better handling. Jools old car would have been idealMy criteria would be as follows:

Won't find much cheaper than this if it is track ready with spares (posted by Wyn on Wedge thread.):

As I pressed 'submit' I just knew you would be the first to reply

Something like this could be good fun:

Looks great, would be great to drive to and from the circuit in, and relatively cheap. Much cheaper to run than a Cerb too.
I have no affiliation with the seller whatsoever. Just keep looking at Wedges for sale.

Ho Ho Ho - I suppose I can only have two black eyes at any point in time... plus a-la-Bradley Wiggins, a few broken ribs !!!
In any other given situation I would have said 'TTIWWP', but given you're clearly the weakest one in the relation I'll pass LOL(if you somehow can follow my logic... in between the lines there's a congratulation for taking the big step hidden, honestly)

Hate to recommend these but they are cheap:

Running gear almost identical to your Griff so any problems you can transfer knowledge. Needs a respray (or so its says) but for trackdays you wouldn't mind that as you'll get scrapes/chips anyway so at least your not starting from a top paint job which you'd be continually worrying about.
No affiliation with seller again.

I do keep looking at the wedges now though. I never really liked the shape or look of them but after a few hours browsing them the initial horror is starting to change to a weird admiration.
I think they are growing on me.
I have to there are some good deals on Cerb 4.2 just now and out the box ideal for track days.
Got to be worth a look.
- Good brakes
- Long wheel base
- Quick steering rack
- plenty of power around 340-360 standard.
- Not as soft as you first think the AJP is pretty strong lump if looked after.
Got to be worth a look.

Yes, this was my initial thought. I wasn't as concerned about the engine as the other components. I had a 4.5 for a few years as a daily driver that lived out in all weathers. The engine never missed a beat but I did get though brake masters, door/window electronics, replaced actuators for doors/boots, black button starting issues, batteries (only 4 days without a run resulted in flat batteries even with a new battery), various burnt out light wires (they are too thin as standard for the current they carry), big fuse issues, clutch rebuild, new starter motor, etc. And I consider I had a 'good un' as for all the little issues it never let me down and in all probably only cost around 2-3k a year to maintain. I would have another Cerbera though just for the noise, mine was fully decat and sounded like war had broken out on lift off. Hmmm, in fact, I think it was over 120db so maybe wouldn't be a good track car!- Good brakes

Yes, I think these wedge shapes are getting to me. Must stop looking at them. This looks good (nothing to do with me and don't know the seller):http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1987-TVR-TASMIN-BLUE-/26...
