I hope all are well, but would suggest an 80ft skid mark in a 40 mph zone is the signature of an inconsiderate, Max-Power style road-user...

To suggest this without accurate measurements or precise details of this incident is ridiculous. If I was the driver I'd prefer it if people didn't speculate about the circumstances surrounding the incident and particularly the style of my driving.

Lets not forget, what you estimate as 6 inches long, may only seem like a couple of inches to me

I appreciate that the overall sentiment of your post was to remind us to take it easy. However, I feel that the comments about the driver were, to say the least, unnecessary.

You may recall from your driving test:

40 MPH - Thinking Distance = 12 metres Braking Distance = 24 metres

Total stopping distance = 36 metres (120 ft) or 9 car lengths

Consider the situation, cars/bicyle/child pulls out, possibly inexperience driver slams the anchors, wheels lock and leave an 80ft mark - quite reasonable...

Let the accident investigators judge what happened and whop was to blame from the witnesses and through examining the evidence
