Kwik-Fit - Falken Tyres on a TVR thoughts anyone...

Arvo chaps,

Had to have a new tyre on the daily drive today, whilst there I asked if Kwik-Fit can get hold of Toyo's for my Chimeara, the chap said not Toyo's but they do Falken's which "will last longer than Toyo's and are just as good".

There's a snobby part of me that wants to have Toyo's all round and they do look pretty. I need 2 tyres on the rear, but just in case it's a really good deal does anyone have any opinions on Falkens on a Chimeara 500 ?

There are various Falkens, when I bought my Chimaera it had the "wrong" Falkens or "Ditch Finders" as someone described them !

Falken 452's are a good tire, many Z4 owners use these cheaper than toyo's and my personal preference the Eagle F1 which also has better rim protection

I have FK452's on the back of the chim, very happy with them. They dont do the smaller size for the fronts so you will always end up with different tyres front/rear.

Do NOT buy anything from the Falken ZE range . I had some one my Omega - my thinking was the FK452 is great so how bad can their cheaper version be ? Answer - bloody awful !

I think the FK452 has now been replaced by the FK453 , cant comment on those.

Used them on a Tuscan, weren´t too bad. But they are heavier than similar dimensioned rubber from other brands. I recommend Pirelli PZero nero all the way. Expensive but very, very good, even on track.

To answer initial question, because I think price is a matter: Why not go for Hankook (V12 or S1 evo). Better performance for equal money.

I have 452 Falkens on my Cerb and they are fine.

If you are looking at Falken's also look at Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta, good grip and last longer than Falkens in my experience.

Falken are a subsidiary/owned by Goodyear, they are usually a cheaper variant. their winter tyres, for example, are fantastic and a fraction of the cost of the similar Goodyears.

however, for track or everyday summer tyres, i would generally say that you get what you pay for. i am more than willing to be proven wrong though.

most ratings and opinions are from actual owners and users, just make sure that there is a decent amount of feedback on the tyre you are researching. if there is only one feedback/rating it can skew the results (obviously)

You may like to know that in Japan, where they make Toyos the first thing that the dealers used to do was dispose of the Toyo sponsored rubber that TVR supplied the car with and fit some better tyres.
