Classicline Insurance
Discussion
I'm doing the rounds again for the Griff insurance and spoke to Classicline (+ several others). In the past I've avoided them as they used to insist that the car was always garaged when at home which was silly but last year they offered another insurer who was Ok with that but they weren't as good on price. This year they said that Equity Red Star (ERS) allowed that and gave me quite a good price which incl UK B/down & recovery with European recovery at about £60 extra. Interestingly this when added in came to almost exactly the same as RH Insurance who only do the cover (with ERS) with European recovery bundled in. There are however some minor differences between the 2 companies both quoting ERS with RH saying you HAVE to garage the car when it is at home whereas Classicline say you don't between 6am and 10pm and also having smaller excesses. Classicline also said that the car was OK left with the roof off when parked whereas the online policy document suggests otherwise. So who knows what is and isn't covered. I'll ask in writing once I've looked at the quote they are sending.
One area of concern is however that a web search for comments on ERS claims performance reveals some really bad reports (as there are for many other insurance companies too!); it is possible that people only report problems, many of which are self inflicted, so I wonder if anyone on here has any experience that they would share either here or via PM? I have seen decent reports re the breakdown service so I assume that is OK (it does say that the car has to have a spare tyre as a condition of service so any experience if tyre sealant is being carried in lieu of spare would be very useful).
