There is a Cerbie in the classified with a siezed engine. My imidiate thoughts were, junk the AJ and put in a Rover V8 or maybe even a SBC! Question is, will either fit?

The SBC would probably rule itself out through its extra weight.

Or, maybe a BMW straight 6 from an M3?

All daft I know, but a Cerbera with reliable running gear would make for a great long term project.

I think the RV8 is too wide for the space but I am sure a BMW straight 6 has been fitted to one.
There was a thread a while back where a company was asying they were doing it - not sure if the project was ever finshed.

Yes but you have to cut the chassis cross members to get the wider Rover V8 to fit.

There's one for sale on here that has a 4.6 Rover V8 fitted - www.rhinomotorsport.co.uk/

Richard Thorpe from RT racing in Sheffield has a Cerbera with an M3 engine being put in at this very moment.

I dunno, the AJP is the heart of the beast and what brings out the character in the car. It's a bit like having a pacemaker fitted, will still function but will never be the same.

Why not fit a 2.0T diesel, very reliable and good fuel economy

You could shove the alfa 2.4 jtd 5 pot in. They are putting out about 175bhp. If your tasimin is as light as my old M was then it would fly.

Mind you BMW have just started producing a 3.0 twin turbo oil burner which I suspect might be a spanking motor.

Oh dear what am I saying

Not a silly question at all. There are a lot of Griff and Chim drivers out there thinking about Cerbs and Tuscans who because of potential reliability issues are afraid to take the plunge. This along with the factory's current stance on rebuilds could mean a lot of Tuscan owners looking for alternative power.

For instance, say your Speed Six goes pop, why spend £5k upwards on getting it fixed knowing that in perhaps 10,000 miles it may go pop again when you can put in an engine that you know will go the distace.

or you could buy a Ferrari with less power that needs a £5k service every two years even if it doesnt go pop.. and if it does go pop

lets get these engines in perspective.. its not a mondeo!!!!

Having said that though i fancy a cerb with a corvette ls1/6 motor... more power than the ajp

Here's what a Chevy ZZ4 with a T56 looks like in a TVR chassis. Lots of bits need to be cut and modified but it fits nicely.

LPG single turbo. I have acquired the tank from ebay and front end LPG equipment from a 4.6 Rangie. My mate Scott has the turbo, a watercooled Garrett T3 from a V6 Renault 2.8. Mark Adams has offered to tune it once it's all bolted in. Hopefully I'll be able to rent some workshop space to do the conversion work over the winter.

Yeah but the zz4 is a huge engine th els1/6 is much more compact

i think the chassis its in is a race tuscan...

The Corvette LS1 engine measures approximately 25.25" long (Rover V8 is 27.5"), LS1 overall height is 24-25" (Rover V8 is 25.5" plus the carb and air filter or efi plenum, 29-30" or more), LS1 width across the cylinder heads is 20.5" (Rover V8 is 20"). With the T56 6 speed gearbox fitted the LS1 is some 3" shorter than a Rover V8 with a standard 5 speed gearbox.

mmm isnt that a bmw lump i see in the background and that blue chassis just visible would seem to belong to a cerbera with mods for the bmw lump.

No, just a TVR with a powerful but bomb-proof drivetain

BHP = enough to have fun
Torque = more than enough...

There is a rumor that Dreadnought are doing replacement V8 engines for older TVRs. It may do worth giving them a ring on 01877-331099.

Never implied that it was a Mondeo engine and have no intention of opening the can containing the speed six worms. Just telling it like it is.

I have been saving hard and desperately wanted a Tuscan, now I just can't bring myself to do it. So a nice Griff or Chim it will be. Read the feedback on the reliability poll, Im not alone.

Now if I could buy a Tuscan with a proven engine, that would be a different matter.

What about a nice RB26DETT engine? (2.6 litre twin turbo skyline engine... faily easy/cheap to tune up to about 450bhp)

I have ls1/6 engines and have looked very closely at the cerb and other TVR's. I even checked the cerb again, just the other week. The cerb has the width for an LS1 heads and it's chassis rails are quite low down. I'm sure the LS1 will fit.

Has anybody got a scrap front end for me to try it for size or an engineless car for a quick 'drop in test' (with a hoist of course)!
