Window Tinting

Hi all. Got a Cerbera & I'm thinking of having the windows tinted.Nothing too drastic.I'll go away & read up on the legal stuff in a bit,but was just wondering if anyone has had it done to their tvr? Any idea of price would be welcome,& if they've had any issues with it regarding the old bill & also with it scuffing/peeling on the window edges.

No tinting forward of the B post so don't really leave a lot left on a cerb. ....

Yes, tinted mine.

Rough guides are...
- Can't tint windscreen or drivers/passenger tool
- Can tint top of windscreen
- Can tint passenger + back windows
- Don't tint perspex if you have any

I had mine tinted at Central TVR which isn't far from you. They just did it to the legal limits on the side windows, there's a picture of how it looks on my profile. No issues with plod or any peeling. I'll see if I can dig out the invoice as I had other stuff done at the time so can't remember the exact cost.

There's only two reasons I can think you want to tint your windows
1 to hide how ugly you are
2 because you are a Chav

I believe you can tint the passenger windows forward of the B pillar to a level of 35% as many manufacturers already do

Up to 30% (allows 30% of light through) = 3 Points + £60 fine. Dangerous use with a prohibition possibly.

31% - 70% = £30 fine. Glass not as prescribed.

But fill your boots behind the B pillar!

I had mine done at a cost of £210.
It's the minimum tint and I'm happy with it.

Sorry, my bad. I meant back seats - not passenger.

As you say, front seats can't be done.

So I got the figure wrong and its 30% for front windows, thats not you can't tint thats a restriction surely

The stand point is that
Your front windows must allow 75% of natural available light
B pillars back total black out

Sadly not that straight forward:

70% of visible light must pass through windows forward of the B pillar (75% through the windscreen). Many people misunderstand that and presume that 70% allows a 30% tint - It doesn't! Glass does not let in 100% of light. Clear glass only allows approximately 86% of light to pass through and the slight tint of standard manufactured glass varies from the 70% maximum limit up to approx 80% of light passing through, therefore any film being added to these windows could further drop the light passing through to below the limit.

Also your insurer should be made aware of your modified windows. They of course would love any excuse not to pay out! This last comment is my motivator for not having it done myself!
