TVR's Off On The Cannonball

Took a trip to see the start of the European Cannonball today, meeting
up with J S G in his Tuscan on the M1 before we rerouted to find a private
runway to have some fun before heading up to Docklands for the start.
A wonderful collection of machinery with over 100 cars running in the event this year.
Good to see a few TVRs in the car park as well with a Griff, Tuscan, T350C and
two Cerberas.
So onto the Cannonball.
It should be compulsory for event drivers, let's make that Porsche drivers,
to know how to do a burn out from a standing start.
We had a least 4 fluff their gears leaving them coasting for a few seconds
while one managed to even stall it on the line..
There were three TVR's entered, a Chimaera, a Cerbera and Pistonhead's Sacha
in his stunning T350C and all more than up held TVR's honour at the start and you
can see some short clips below.

Sweet. Even the RX8 had a more interesting start than certain German built cars. I guees the lambo wanted to make sure his clutch lasted the whole race (or was it 4WD?). Let's face it, TVRs rock when it comes to pse value.
I think there might have been room for a few more stickers on those cars though

For the Cerbera start - that's the way to do it

Good to catch up Graham. And nice to know there's no chance of "my car's faster than yours bragging"... (Doing >150 1/4 of a mile from the 
was a first. 
) Nearly got done on the way back too - couple of squad cars pulled out of nowhere behind me just outside the Docklands as I was getting up to pace.
Anyway, back to the Cannonball... That Cerb was fantastic - like I said at the time, it was the only one that actually made my internal organs vibrate!
And the Porker drivers were a complete sham; stalling on the grid is unforgiveable. Not sure what was going on with the Lambos, the second one seemed to give up after a hundred yards, and the first just wasn't "playing".
(And I tucked Jo up under the duvet as soon as we got back)

Was great for focussing my mind on what I really want to do in life. Just watched the programme about last year's on M&M... not sure I'd want to share the road with some of those nutters, but looks GREAT fun. Think I'll stick to my plan of doing the Paris -> Dakar in a Pajero Evo/Wildcat before I'm 40!

I've considered that too, and would be well up for joining a team next year if anyone else is (I've even been on holiday to Morocco this year to get a feel for the country - going over the top of the Atlas mountains, etc).
However, I would have to cheat a bit. Don't really want to do it in a £100 car, want to make it there without huge mechanical worries (I have enough of that with the Tuscan!). Was thinking more of a £1000 car...

How about you buy the car off the seller for £100 but make a 'generous donation' of £900 to the blokes 'back pocket charity' for his efforts in selling you the vehicle...? There. £100 squid car that's really a grands worth. Laaverly.
Back on topic, Cannonball sounds outrageous to me, that £100 Paris Dakar sounds even more loony but even more fun. What an experience...!

By that point, they'd all been sitting around queueing for a good 30 minutes+, and were more likely to overheat than anything! (Think there'll be some serious clutch bills due for some of 'em, mind)
Did notice that when they all started them up, everyone nailed the throttle to show off.
One thing I've found in the Tuscan is that I can't actually get the revs over 2000 for the first couple few seconds after it starts, even if I try. This is a great thing, as it removes any chance of me treating the engine badly, but it's very odd!roop said:
