Mk2 Tuscan, new carpet fitting tips?

Having costed up my upcoming service and engine mapping I've decided to save myself a bit of money and fit some new interior carpets myself.

Going to order them from d and c trim as they're confident in supplying the right colour (stratus blue).

Anyone here fitted some themselves recently? If so any tips? I'm not going to do the dashboard shelf as its still in good condition so as far as I can tell its just a case of taking the seats and centre tunnel trim out before getting on with it.

Questions really at the moment are:
What's best to clean up the body once the old carpet is up?
What glue is best and spray or brush?
And fitting tips etc for getting it all aligned?

I'm going to be putting some soundproofing in underneath too so will need to make sure that doesn't muck up the fitting/size as well!

Ahhh...yet again, our own pioneer on all things we'd like to do, but aren't sure how much work is involved or indeed if it's even possible!

Not sure about the Tuscan
If you want a really good finish I would recommend taking the centre console out and any other panels that the carpet come up to

Hi Mr Chips

I haven't fitted any carpets but when fitting a liner to my roof section of my Chimaera " Woolies " suggested high temp spray adhesive, because of the sun heat. You may find that your heat will come from under the car

There's only 3 tips on bonding carpet in. 1 Preperation,2 preperation 3 preperation

DO IT IN THE GARAGE WITH THE EXTERNAL DOOR CLOSED(stops air born particals getting on to the prep area.Try and wear a paper throw away coverall for the same reason they're cheap as chips) Make sure you get ALL the old adhesive off the body where your are going to put new. Vac the area throughly not just on the floor but the inside generally. Clean the area with a degreaser and/or a netural detergent.

Follow these few simple rules on prep and you'll get a nr perfect bond and especially sections that are glued vertically up the sills etc these will not come loose after a few years as they would with poor prep/product.

Get yourself a quality adhesive this will be the key because like all plastic cars they go thro' heat cycles and over the years the adhesive properties brack down and the cheaper the product... well you know what I'm saying. It would be worth speak to one of the TVR trimmers or any car trimmer and ask what products they use for prep and adhesion then at least you are going in the right direction.

I know it seems a bit OTT but you did ask! but if a job etc ;-)

Cheers for the replies. I think Ben's going to be disappointed as having spoken to a couple of trimmers and carpet suppliers, I think that doing the work myself this time is a no go.

With me wanting to put some decent thick soundproofing down, I think the only way i'm going to get a decent fit and finish is to give it to someone with some more experience as there's going to be a fair amount of actual trimming work as opposed to me simply fitting a pre-made kit.

Had a chat with Dave the trimmer today who was pretty helpful, as has Chris from D and C trim in helping identify the right carpet type and colour and with the right suppliers details.

I'm in the garage tomorrow so will have another final look around the car just in case I have a sudden feeling of overconfidence and change my mind!
