It turns out that the input shaft is leaking on the gearbox giving the clutch slip in fifth in peak power. What is the best in both performance and value for a five litre?

The sod is that the clutch was replaced by Team Central last year so has had very little use, I once fitted a new clutch in one of my Mk1 Golf GTIs, about 3,000 miles later a bolt left the planet gear through the bellhousing depositing oil all over the clutch so I removed the clutch soaked it in white spirit and burnt the oil off, eight years later the clutch is still fine.

Is it worth trying this??????

Why dont you just replace the cluch plate, clean the oil off the rest of it with some white spirit and it should work fine. If your not doing it yourself it may be cheaper to replace the whole thing once you have factored in the increased labour charges for cleaning it.

Probably depends on how long the seal has been leaking and how saturated the clutch plate is.

No good going to all the trouble of removal of gearbox to only have to do it again if clutch still slips.

I've just replaced my clutch with a motorsport version from V8 developments - more sensibly priced than the Borg & Beck from TVR even if they have one in stock!

Best of luck

This the information I received from AP racing whemn I contacted them recently after my own clutch failed

The Rover V8 powered TVR Griffith are normally equipped with a Ø9.5" clutch type.

AP Racing used to supply TVR with a medium torque clutch kit.

CP2345-8 pressure plate, clamp load 1900lb, retail £97.12 + vat

CP2346-4 driven plate, spring centre, organic facings, 1.0"x23T spline. retail £92.55 + vat

this combination will handle 270lbft.

The next option will accept 300lbft

CP2394-14 pressure plate, clamp load 2400lb, triple drive straps to add strength for reverse torque from down changes, SG iron pressure plate casting rated to 9,000RPM. retail £138.00 + vat. Release load will increase by approx10% over above kit.

Use with CP2346-4 driven plate.

You can order the above via our agent in the North, Questmead in Rochdale sales@questmead.co.uk

I think the std engine is rated around 320lbs, although my own motor is lightly tweeked and the clutch as been fine, you could contact AP Racing ( pete.collen@apracing.co.uk ) provide your engine specs and outputs and ask for their opinion.
