Outrigger replacement. Cut back all the way to the centre frame and replace with new.

Not an MOT requirement but I do need to get this job done. Because of my location I would like to have either Track V Road or X Works do the job.

Track V Road is 20% more expensive than X Works for what appears to be an identical job. Am I missing something or is there something about Track V Road that makes them worth the extra money

Why not just go to Tony at HHC? Ian is getting very good at fitting jig made outriggers these days...They even have their own jig...

Bob,

Give me a call and I have info on SD Autotec you might like and you can have a look at the Cerb. Had mine done over the winter. Very pleased.

Tony may be good but he is also very expensive and for this job I suspect he is far less experienced than the two I've suggested.

I am planning to use Track V road to do mine, I had a long chat last year with them and looked at a car on the ramps getting a set done, I am sold on there process and experience.

Thats an opinion I suppose..I have similar experiences of another of the three listed and as such I know I would rather stay in the North east..Welding some steel tube isn't so complex and I would reckon no more or less expensive than the other usual suspects!!... Plus you might like to see some previous repairs carried out on a black cerbera before being repaired properly by HHC..names not published to protect the hapless.

if Money is everything to you then whay not just use a good restoration garage in the NE, save you a fair chunk of petrol and hassle!!

YHM

I understand your point, I have used HHC on several occasions but the 'stay in the northeast' bit doesn't work. The northeast is a big place and HHC is a very long way from me

TvR if I was going to have them done which I don't have to smile

I only push them because of how they are done from the engineering perspective and not the price. 20% can be a deal breaker but the process is not simply welding a bit of tube together. Engineering is an art which I love to see, for me it would be a done deal.

I'll support X-Works purely from having seen several of the outrigger replacements they have done and they're every bit as well engineered and installed as the TvR ones, so for 20% less I'd say it was a no-brainer.

ETA X-Works will be doing my outriggers when they finally give up the ghost.

I am getting a bit pissed off with this who is better than who ...Make your own minds up boxedin

And I certainly don't agree casting doubt over 3 companies, just because you "favour" another.

What an odd thing to write. The point is I don't have experience of this job, others do and their opinion could help me to avoid problems. Perhaps you could choose not to click on posts like this to avoid being pissed off rolleyes

Totally agree. We say who we know are good at doing the work carried out from re-sprays, engines, LS conversions, carpets, tyres, turbos and so on. This is what a forum is all about. Yes I agree it comes up often but hi ho so what. How many times do you see my car is leaking, my car will not start, my windows will not go up. These questions have been asked for years and they are still answered by those that care to help and give an opinion.

I don't under stand this post at all. This is a TVR information resource and if i was going to spend £1500-£2500 of my hard earned i would do all the home work i could before hand.

I'd say that knowledge of the job and preferred methods change over time too so a previous answer to this question may no longer be relevant.

A few years ago this was a body off job, later a body lift job. Nowadays several companies are saying that provided the inspection of centre ladder frame is okay it is better not to lift at all because if you cut the hangers all the way back to the centre frame there is sufficient room to weld and alignment to the body is better if the body can be left in place.

OK, I will add a new dimension.

Willow Sports Cars in Newark.

My personal 2p. I would go for a full body off and sort suspension etc. Also it would have to be a very good inspection of the central ladder/suspension mounts etc to be sure there are no other issues. However I dont know your personal car circumstances and how long you plan to keep the car etc. I would hazard the Chim is a bit easier than a Cerb to check this stuff but never the less. I would go all in!

Had mine done at TvR with an extra mod added which locates the driver's seat to the chassis, its an excellent job only thing I got caught out on was the price which was plus vat so when your told the job can be done for £x I assumed that included vat, it didn't!

for what you are paying for out rigger replacement I would take 20% variance as not a problem.. a few hundred quid diff,,,,, a few tanks of fuel set off getting there n back...

if it were on a bigger job, or 50% id be asking questions

Sorry I don't look at outriggers as major job like they were 5 years ago...
